Audiobook Source - Cost Friendly?
« on: May 26, 2020, 11:28:11 PM »
Hi All -

Posting with a question for those who have gone the audiobook route - have you found anywhere in particular to be cost effective/friendly?  I have physical copies of all the books but recently had our first child and was looking into the possibility of getting the audio versions of the books to listen to (since my hands are full now more than previously =P) prior to the release of Peace Talks.  I've been seeing the books mostly listed in the low to mid 20s for the audio versions and that could add up quickly if I got 16 of them at once.

Any info/insight the community could offer would be much appreciated.  Thank you for your time and help.

I get the audio books via Amazon's Audible.com . I have an account and a plan with Audible.com where I get a credit every month that can be used to purchase any Audio book. It costs a monthly fee that varies depending on the number of credits you want to receive each month. The audible app provides an interface for smartphone access and you can use a desktop or laptop for playing audiobooks via Amazon's website. I do not know if there are other sources for Jim's audiobooks. You can purchase individual books via Audible.com with no plan. In general the monthly fee is cheaper than purchasing individual books. The credits can accumulate if you do not use them up each month.
Hope this helps.

If you just want to listen and not own, try the Public Library.

... try the Public Library.

+1
Your library may not have the e-books (or may not even have an e-lending program).  But they may, and then you're set!

Audible at least used to have a buy a years worth of audio book credits upfront option that was cheaper then the buy and get a book credit monthly option. If you go that way you could maybe save a bit and grab 12 Dresden books up front.  Then if you let the account sit around for a couple months with no credits in it they will probably offer you a buy extra credits at a discount option.  If you want to get the entire series on audio that is probably the cheapest way to go.

Unless that is you have all the books as ebooks for kindle.  In that case amazon will usually offer a discount to also get the audio version.  If were starting from scratch and always wanted both that is probably even cheaper but not cheaper if you do not already have or need the kindle version.  I sometimes watch for the $1.99 kindle book deals just so I can get the discount on an audio book as the discount will almost always save more then the $1.99 just not as much a full priced ebook.

You can buy 3 audible credits for 36 USD, assuming you're a member.  The books run around 20 to 25 dollars, so roughly two hundred for the set.  A significant discount but still expensive.
