I gave it a try when I was writing Silent Oath. I worked on another book on the weekends, and ended up not really going anywhere with it.

Once Lady Raven is done, I'll switch to my next urban fantasy series, get the first of that written, then see where I'm at.

My brother stopped about half way through his third book in his first series and switched over to starting a new novel which is about 2/3rds done at this point.  He was feeling uninspired in his main series.

I would say that it doesn't matter how many books you have on going (although I strongly advise not leaving too many hanging as that can lead to not finishing anything!).  You just have to stay mono-focused on 'whatever' it is you're writing.

Like you I can't write a few k on one book and switch to writing a few k on the other.  I need to be immersed in whatever it is I'm doing.

Continue to crank out pages, but discouraged over the quality. Three days ago, I wrote my best and most emotionally filled scene ever--rough draft junk but good. And then bang, the next day the rest wouldn't flow. Yesterday, with a head to desk moment, I realized that I wasn't done with the last scene and couldn't leave it yet. I backed up and came at the transition again and now patching in the stuff I wrote yesterday. My typical 1000 a day scrapped to about 500 each day... Hoping to get back in the flow tomorrow and make up the word count this weekend.

The rise and fall of emotions as I write never fails to amaze me. OTOH, in the midst of first draft, I also have no true judgement call on the quality--just the raw emotional impact. Keep writing. Keep writing. Keep writing.

Through pass on five more chapters.

One more evening like this will get me to the end, there are a couple of specific things I want to give a final pass on, and then that is that.
Mildly OCD. Please do not troll.

kittensgame, Sandcastle Builder, Homestuck, Welcome to Night Vale, Civ III, lots of print genre SF, and old-school SATT gaming if I had the time.  Also Pandemic Legacy is the best game ever.

I've finally sat down and started working out a plot line, but I think I've put myself in over my head with my expectations. Too many great ideas and no good way to phrase them. Sigh.

All you can do is keep writing until you hit those great idea areas.  If you are determined and don't mind expanding your novel intentions from 60-70k to 120-140k you'll get there.  Even if it takes more than one novel!  You might only get 80-90% of your ideas in there but in the end you'll have something you can be proud of.

Without knowing anything about what you're doing, I'd just say to dive into it feet first and keep your nose down.  You'll get there eventually, just so long as you refuse to give up.

I love when I reach the point in a novel that I'm compelled to set up my little spread sheet for 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, and 9/10 marks so I know where I'm heading for that next major plot point. It's like the road click clacking under the wheels of my car...

Slow week, but lots of complicated issues resolved and mental preparation for the road ahead. I'm in 1st POV and the three sub-threads are going to be a b**** to get sequenced and timed in the story arc. Last three days I'm back on my 1000 minimum per day and one day I reached 3000, which for me is an unheard of occurrence.
