Hitting your word count is always good.
I had to give up on it.  My method is slightly... erratic, so I just find if I've got anything down on paper at all it's a good thing.

Do you find the best ideas always come when you're stuck at work?

I've had to pretty much build up the momentum from writing nothing for several months last year-wedding and all that-and I started slow--at first just trying to get anything written--then setting myself a word count-started at 250 a day, now up to 500, and anything I don't get, I try to make up for on the weekends.  More often than not, I'm getting maybe 100-300 during lunch, and sometimes I can manage a little bit more after work.  But for me it is definitely one of those things where the more often I write, the more gets written.

I don't know if the best ideas come at work, though I do get a lot then.  In the shower and when I'm trying to go to sleep are other times.  But I know that at work, I can really let my mind go because it doesn't take much concentration to work on the puzzles I do, and I can listen to books, music, or podcasts, which often makes my mind go off on tangents and think "ohh...this'd be really cool" and I make a note on my iPhone.

Hello new here...finally.  I tried a while back a couple of times but the forum didn't seem to like my computer even after I registered.

Anyway, Good job writing there you all.

I usually write every day even though sometimes it's revising which is a different type of writing...uses a different part of the brain. I've found I tend to get cranky, feel out of sorts and a tad depressed if I don't write for a couple of days.

I don't usually keep track of how many words I do unless it's something special. Like The National Write A Novel Month challenge...a 50,000 word novel in November. Two years ago I did a UF novel this past Nov it was a Space Opera.

Anyway, I have to keep track of my word count for that but most of the time I either don't think about it or am too lazy. But as I said I try to write every day some. Like right now I'm going to stop procrastinating--which this is :)   and get to revising a certain novel.

Okay, how do the smilies work? So it worked that way hmmm.

I've got about 600ish more words and the rest of the scene roughly outlined.  Now I'm trying to figure out if I'm awake enough to keep writing, or if I should sleep. Want more written, late start because of errands and other crap, but I've been up since 9am. And I don't think I can stay up all night and day, so I'll have to sleep at some point.

...Wait...yeah...I think sleep.  The heavy eyelid thingie is starting.

Brand new idea, going like a freight train.
Sudden but incredibly pleasing.

How can 168 pages only be 33.7k words. It just seems unfair. It should be so much higher dammit.

Anyway, third revision is done save for the final two chapters which I refuse to write until I get a working draft I like. At that size, is this still considered a novel or would it be a novella? So much time sunk into this story and it just feels so short...

Manuscript pages?  My WiP is 50.8k, and it's 102 manuscript pages.  131 paperback pages, according to Scrivener.  Can depend on a lot of stuff, like font size and white space and all that.

I've smashed my weekly word count goal.  I try for 2500 a week-500 a day-and so far this week, I'm at 3400.  Always nice when I hit a scene or two where I know what needs to happen, the words come so well.

I'll give it another pass, possibly adding in another subplot I've been sitting on for a potential sequel. I dunno, what's really the target for novels these days? I wanna say I heard it was 80k once. I know Nanowrimo aims for 50k and that's only supposed to be a stop gap to something larger.
