Upgrade Bugs
« on: August 01, 2011, 11:43:00 PM »
Im digging the new look.  With the upgrade though I thought it might be nice to have a thread to report the inevitable growing pain bugs that will crop up in software.

So far, the big one Ive come across is that I cannot view anything past the first post or two on any given page of any threads.  The background changes to black somewhere usually on the title line of the 2nd or 3rd post down.  the text is visible only if you highlight it, and no posts past that will load, even if the thread has multiple pages.   It appears to be accompanied by a continuous load of a Google+ option of some kind, but I cant get it to move on enough to see what it is.  This is happening in Firefox 5.0 on an XP machine.

EDIT:  not having the problem this morning at work, so it has either been resolved, or the fault is on my home machine.

Yup its still happening on my home machine.  NoScript has solved it (and is all around awesome, thanks!)  but now Im wondering what I have on my work machine that is different from my home setup... Curiouser and Curiouser.

Immediate resolution is to install noscript.

Just checked my noscript settings, I allow all of the forum site and am blocking google.com (which is all NoScript is showing) and I have no issues.

So yeah, it has to be something that is google related. Which to  blame? google, or the Forum's google integration is at at fault but you lose no functionality by disabling google.

I'm guessing there's a google+ plugin that's not getting calls back that's hanging the page load. If it can be found it would probably be best to remove it.

Yep.

Being old school I don't like coding stuff that requires "the cloud" or an API dependent on another business/website. At the very least all those calls should be handled with a timer and a graceful release on page load.

Then again, I'm cranky and like keeping my eggs in MY basket :)

Oh! A fellow webhead! Could you possibly pop into the other suggestions thread and make sure I'm not blowing smoke of Iago's backside with the code change suggestions?

I'm having a weird bug on the mobile version of the site where I can edit the posts of people who reply to threads I started by clicking on "Moderate".  I'm resisting the urge to change people's posts, but I thought the mods should know.

I have this problem. Just upgraded noscript, but it didn't help.  :(

I've brought it to Fred's attention.  Thanks for letting us know about it!

Can you still do this, zenten? The permissions themselves weren't wrong, but it looks like the new moderation widget has different ideas about what's allowed/prohibited. I took a guess at what one of the categories of moderation permissions does (the only one that would make sense as producing this effect).

Hm, I think I misunderstood the permissions being addressed on the screen where i made the change -- apologies if I f'd up everyone's ability to reply to topics for a few minutes there. Still digging.

OK, I still have the edit button, but it now gives me an error when I try to use it.

Well, goody. I can't see any reason for zenten's reported bug to be possible as a result of the permission configuration. The thing he's able to do is explicitly disabled for any membergroups that apply. :P
