Fun and Odd Character Concepts
« on: June 08, 2011, 01:16:30 PM »
I think we've had a thread similar to this in the past, but I've had some fun characters pop up in my campaign recently and had a few new ideas and wanted to share them and see what kind of wackiness others had come up with.

Mindy Brown (Raith) - Former WCV Virgin turned Star of a Monster-Hunting reality TV Show

Sarah Cook - Psychologist to the Supernatural (Sometimes even a Werewolf needs a head-check!)

And my newest idea, inspired by Fright Night:
Peter Vincent - Late-Night Horror Movie Host turned Monster Hunter
"Brain Makes My Math Hurt" - me

"Eeyore is my Totem Animal" - me

"Pants are overrated!" - me

My players seem to really like the ghoul who lives in a basement under the cafeteria of the University of Texas.

He is addicted to pornography, a filthy mouth, has a lunch lady booty call, and has been cutting meat for the college over the last 10 years in exchange for his fill every day.

He's a fairly reliable source of information.  If a disgusting one.
Myself: If I were in her(Murphy's) position, I would have studied my ass off on the supernatural and rigged up special weapons to deal with them.  Murphy on the other hand just plans to overpower bad guys with the angst of her short woman's syndrome and blame all resulting failures on Harry.

"Virgil Meyers"

Picture a 7'+ middle-aged-looking guy with platinum hair, ice-blue eyes, pale skin, and with the kind of build that suggests a couple grizzly-bears (and possibly a mountain) figure somewhere in his family tree. Now picture him habitually dressed in a pink-and white, 50s style soda-jerk outfit and acting almost obnoxiously cheerful.

He runs the old-fashioned soda fountain where the PCs tend to hang out since nothing there ever seems to blow out, even when the magic users in the group are having a bad day.

My players love him, but I swear if I have to drop one more clue that "Virgil Meyers" is Bergelmir, I may start throwing clue-bricks at people. I mean, hello, it's not like a Winter Fae would run a place with so much exposed chrome all over the place.

NPC that my PCs became intrigued with...

Gliona, Ghoul Queen.

Not a ghoul, but a strange type of part human with Immunity: Supernatural Powers  (Catch being only supernatural/magic; normal knives, bullets, fists etc. work just fine).  She gained her position by defeating the prior King in single combat.  She's set up a pseudo-medieval court in a rendering plant, complete with a royal advisor.  Meals are often out of the vending machine, though...
You're the spirit of a nation, all right.  But it's NOT America.

The original John Constantine?

It just now occurs to me that your "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" Johnny actually does have some commonality with Hellblazer.

Both Johns were musicians turned demon fighters  :D

Speaking of John Constantine, I just looked at the wikipedia entry on him, and it has a pretty beefy section covering his known supernatural abilities which is ripe fruit for DFRPG...hmmm...may make a cameo in my game  ;)

Definitely on the Wednesdays/Thursdays. I figured the

ranting might be a little over-the-top, but apparently not. if I'm gonna go that far, I may as well just have the Blampires they're waging war against bust in for a hit and get Deus Ex Machina'd.

I also just realized, in thinking about it, how much "Virgil" was influenced by Pratchett's "Ronnie Soak", who is really

Okay, here are two 'interesting' character ideas I have come up with.

The first is a Native American of mixed "Skraeling" and Norse descent.  More specifically, he is descended from a Norse wendol or "Eater of the Dead" (like in the Michael Crichton novel) that was brought to North America in one of the early migrations and ended up intermarrying.  From that time, the bloodline has survived in various northern tribes, with descendants able to absorb the power of the people whom they eat. hence "Eater of the Dead".

As part of the backstory, the bloodline would be at least partially responsible for the native legends of the Wendigo.

The way I planned on handling this character, would be through the power Mimic Abilities, with the character using up the Mimic points as people/things were consumed, to absorb the power of those consumed.  Perhaps a key difference would be that the Mimic points, once 'used' could not be re-used by discarding a 'consumed' power.

Two or three other areas of interest with regards to this are the potential for a Recovery power, with a Catch of Fire and/or Recovery only possible by consuming the meat of an intelligent creature.  Another possibility would be for a Feeding Dependency, with the requirement again being the need to eat someone.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now, my second character idea is a bit different, and this one I could use some help in 'modeling' the character.

Basically I'm starting with a young boy, about ten years old, who has the potential to become a Wizard, and his powers are just starting to emerge.

Somehow (mechanism to be determined later, depending on how the modeling goes), the boy has something else living inside his head aside from himself.  I haven't decided whether this is going to be a Spirit of Intellect like Bob, or a high-end magical computer database matrix like the Archive/Ivey.  Whichever 'path' as it were, gets chosen, the boy is the first person to have this thing sharing head-space, which means that there is no previous experience for the thing to provide the boy.  Unless/until the boy reads or experiences something, the thing doesn't know about it.  However, once that has happened, the thing can provide perfect recall to the boy in an instant whenever asked.

Another property of this thing, is that it is 'inheritable' being able to be passed from one host to another in the bloodline, much like the Archive.  I haven't decided on whether the thing should have isn't own distinct personality, or whether its primary and secondary motivations are the preservation of its host bloodline, and the knowledge accumulated by the various hosts.

-Cheers

There is one PC in the game I'm running that I just love. Paul O'Malley is a plumber, he is also a hydromancer and friend of the local warden. He has no desire to get caught up in the adventured and politics of that side of the track, he just wants to be a plumber like his dad. To this end he has punched a wild fay prince in the face (And took a grudge as a trouble aspect) stepped in the middle of a showdown between a Golem and a Wendigo to pull a woman to safety and has, on at least one occasion had to fight off a never-never creature in the form of a sludge construct. He is about to get an offer of sponsorship to the white council.

An NPC whom everyone in the game seems to enjoy is Johnathon Glick. John is a changeling, a half troll to be precise. He is a large man of not so many words. His troll heritage has had the odd effect of making him able to smell when underage kids are lying. So John works for child services.
