I stand up all day on a concrete slab floor. The mere thought of sitting gives me exciting shivers down my spine . All that said I carry 30 or so pounds I need to lose and I have gotten to a level of lazy rarely seen over the last 10 years.

Pfft. I've always had the metabolism of stone. A number of years ago, in the middle of losing 50 lbs but hitting a longish plateau, I decided to get detailed and measure exactly what I was taking in. 1200 calories per day. And not losing an ounce.

My metabolism has dropped further with a desk job. As a teacher, I was at least standing and moving around all the time (which is part of why I'm uncomfortable with sitting for extended periods).

My mental image of Shecky teaching is based on a professor I student-aided for when I was in 7th grade.  When the kids were the most focused and quiet, be it on a lab assignment or an exam, he would shout, "YES, I LOVE THIS CLASS!"  All the students feared and adored him.
