Character Building Help - Samurai Dude

So here is the character concept in a nutshell -

A Samurai from the year 1573 (when the Samurai feudal system was at there peak growth) who walked through a natural rift in the Nevernever one minute and when he walked out five minutes later for him the year was 2010.I want him to be a clued in master swordsman pure mortal/emissary of power  (possibly with an IoP legendary sword of some sort) that hunted supernatural monsters in his time and while definitely time shocked seeks to do the same thing here.

Thoughts/suggestions?

And on a related note is the Sword of the Cross trapping True Aim a power or stunt, reason I am asking is that it is attached to an item of power and not put directly on the character according to the books.

Y'know, I think it would be interesting to do an Emissary of Power in the style of a Buffyverse Slayer.  Give the character Speed, Toughness, Strength, and Recovery instead of an Item of Power.

It acts like a Stunt, though I guess mechanically Stunts are basically just -1 Refresh Powers.

True Aim is a power, not a stunt.  If it was a stunt, it could add a +1 to weapons for attacks only, or another benefit, but not a blanket +1.

That's true.

So if that is true and it is a power will it stack (unlike stunts)

Powers don't stack with stunts unless they say they do.  For example, the strength powers say they increase the damage (they don't say they give a Weapon rating).  A flat +1 from a power basically tells you to not take stunts that don't give at least +2 bonus.  At least as it relates to attacks (otherwise things get WAY out of hand).  The game does give a lot of bonuses to lifting/breaking inanimate objects though.

Personally, I don't think I would ever play a character that just had 1 refresh of powers.  It isn't really worth it (in my opinion) to give up the +2 refresh Pure Mortals get for just a single -1.

Stunts
*  Take a stunt to move the Dodging trapping to Weapons.
*  Take Wall of Death (spray attack via melee Weapons).
*  Take Riposte (successful block turns into an immediate hitting strike).
*  Maybe a stunt to allow you to do blocks for another (probably one at a time...) with your Weapons skill.

Skills
*  Maybe go low Scholarship (remember Scholarship technically gives extra spoken languages) and higher Lore.
*  Take Survival (riding).
*  Tell your GM you are replacing Guns with Bows (YS 132).  But this is very double-edged as it means you take a -2 when using Guns until you take a stunt to compensate.

There, 4 stunts and and pure mortal.  Even in a Feet Wet game, you have 4 fate points, which is pretty awesome.  Riposte is a pretty broken stunt.

Here is additional stunt you might consider:
Sheathing The Sword:  Sometimes a warrior knows that victory is more valuable than the life of any one swordsman.  You may spend a fate point to use this stunt in doing so you get a +2 on your Weapons, but the target of your attack may immediately sacrifice its next exchange action to immediately counterattack.  This counterattack occurs at the same time as your strike.  You may not Sheath the Sword more than once per scene.

If you have to ask, it probably breaks a Law of Magic.  You're just trying to get the Doom of Damocles.

Another stunt idea is one to allow you to roll your Survival for your mount's physical defense (basically you are moving its Dodging trapping from its Athletics to your Survival).

I'd recomend maybe taking an aspect that reflects your character's being being almost five hundred years out of place

Also before choosing what item of power/ what powers it has I'd choose what being you plan on being an emissary to.
Oh, hi, Mr. Warden!  How are you this fine day?  My, what a shiny sword you have there...

examples for various gods/ goddess

1. Amaterasu: shinto sun goddess   an item that allows fire/ light evocations
2. Susanoo: shinto goddess of the ocean  something that does water evocation
3. Haya-Ji: God of the whirlwind   wind evocations
4. Izanami: goddess of earth and darkness   earth evocations or if you feel really daring darkness evocations (not black magic rather a lack of light basically the polar opposite of Amatersu
5. Kanayama-hiko: god of metals   metal evocations  (you have to rememeber since he's coming from an eastern background he wont have the same understanding of the elements as someone from the traditional western/ European background this opens the door to other elements such as metal and wood but I'll let you research that when you come up w/ something tell me this sounds like a really sweet character idea
