I had no idea about the books. Then I saw some previews for the show on the SiFi channel. I googled the show, Dresden Files and found out they were based on the books. I forced my dear mother to bring me to the book store and I bought all the books and read them all in a 1 week span.

For all intents an purposes, I don't watch TV at all. That means that I didn't even know that Dresden Files was on TV until I read the book. I got Hooked on Harry via "White Night" found on the table at BJ's discount store.

I found Dredan Files on iTunes. It was the free download of the week. After that - I was hooked. I was SO BUMMED when it was cancelled. Later on, I wondered into a Christian based sci-fi chat room (don't ask), and I had asked if anyone had watched Dresden Files. About three of them stated they hadn't heard of the tv show, but they were frantic fans of the book. So - I went on a witch hunt to find them and eventually just went to Amazon. I'm only on the second book and I've already let 2 of my buds borrow Storm Front.

This is such a fun series!

In a word: Yes.  I liked  the show, and watched it before (or after) Battlestar Galactica, and began to get into it when the strike happened.   We all know what happened next.  Then I was at a Milleniacon, I bought Storm Front.  the rest is history.

I had vaguely heard of the books a couple years ago (I am a frequent visitor to the scifi/fantasy sections in bookstores), but I had never bought any even though I had heard that they were good.  I didn't actually watch the show when it first started airing.  I saw a couple episodes when there was a marathon on all day at one point and thought it was an intriguing principle.  At that point, I remembered that I had heard good things about the books and bought the first one.  Which I then made my mom and brother read as well.  I have since read all the books (a couple times, actually) as well as seen the entire season (I own that as well).  All I can say is that I am glad that I took a chance on the books.

I didn't even know about the show and just picked up the books out of interest at the book store, nothing to do with the show whatsoever. Out of interest from the books, though, I did wonder whether there was a tv series or movie or something, like Neil Gaiman, but when I saw the DVD cover I was disappointed. He was nothing like I imagined him in my head, and honestly I think it''s always best that way...the books are always a lot better than what they interpret on another medium. So yeah...read the books, re-reading them again.

I didn't even catch the show when it was on...Hulu's a good thing.
Gotta say that I'm much more fond of the books than the show - it's not that it's bad...each episode had many fine points.

The books unabashedly rawk, though  ;D

I didnt even know there was a show, I just started reading the books and only found there was a show by coming to this website.   Does anyone know where I can find a timeline of the books by the way?

Just wait till you read books 3 and 4, Grave Peril and Summer Knight, they are great and the series really takes off. The series story arc starts to be filled in and you start seeing the greater series story behind the individual book stories. Read them in order for maximum enjoyment.

Technically, discovered the books because of the TV show, although it was because of a discussion with a friend who had been reading the books.  I was complaining about there never being anything decent on TV, and being out of reading material to make up for it.  He'd been seeing the preview hype about Dresden, and told me about it, killing two birds with one stone, so to speak. :)

I ended up watching the series before I had a chance to get the books.  I'm really glad I did.  I was disappointed that the series ended, but ended up with a nice stock of reading material, with more to come!  It softens the blow some. :)

As a series, I think it was great!  It fit in nicely with the Dresdenverse that Jim has created, without straying too far from creational "intent", I thought.  It was also fun reading the books after the fact, and being able to pick out pieces that the series had tried to match to the book, and where they took the creative license elsewhere.

I'm new here, and am glad I found the site!  "Romeo" hasn't yet finished DB, whereas I've now re-read everything 3 times through SmF (I think I'm learning the acronyms!)  It'll be nice to have a place to hang out and talk to fellow fans while Romeo gets caught up.

I actually discovered book six first. 'Blood Rites' at an NEX on the base I was living at, at the time.  I've been hooked ever since.  I mean who can resist a book like that. Murder on a porn movie set.  An instant classic. xD

I came to the Dresden files by an extract of Storm Front in a free book I got with SFX magazine. I read the extract (first chapter I think) and thought it was good and waited a few years to pick them up. Of course I read book 5 first so I kinda got ahead of my self.

Just finished White Night, looking forward to small favour at some time.

It's out now in UK book shops with the UK cover if you're willing to splash out for the hardcover.  I decided I couldn't wait for the paperback, what with all the conversation on spoilers I was missing out on here!

I watched 5 minutes of the first episode on sci-fi,got bored and changed the channel.... Then as it happened I started watching more and more of the episodes because Battlestar Galactica was played before or after it. By the time that first season was over. I had already gone back and watched all the episodes a couple of times. Then I heard scifi canned it just like they had past shows I had become fond of (*cough* Farscape). Alas time went by and so did I at the bookstore, always saying I should pickup thous books. But i didn't I always had a different book to read, or work to do, or games to play. Then I read thous other books, got bored with the games, and had time off work. Now I'm looking back going WHY the hell did i take so long to start reading this lol.

As of me typing this I have read thru Proven Guilty with me going to buy White Knight and Small Favor when B&N opens since I can't really watch my Bills play football today (damn cable companies and greedy stations). I am actually glad I watched the tv show before reading the books cause to me I always get more pleasure reading a book of a show i have watched even if it has some major differences. It lets me get a vested interest in what I am reading much sooner. Plus I dont think i would have enjoyed the show as much.

So to sum up correctly I discovered the books because of the tv show by way of BSG lol
