A Daredevil type character
« on: July 03, 2010, 07:41:32 AM »
I'm curious if anyone has made a Daredevil type character for DFRPG?  My friend wants to make a character that is blind but not blind and a vigilante just like Daredevil.  How would you go about making this character? ???  What High Aspect (And Template) would you use?  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. ;D  The campaign level I am running is submerged

Template (If you really must use one) would be Minor Talent.
He really has only one power, and that's

Supernatural Sense - maybe with the Strange or Broad Senses addon for a total of -2 or -3 refresh.

High concept... this one can vary greatly. It just needs to mention the supernatural ability.

Blind but perceptive XY.
(XY standing for whatever you want him to be)

All seeing blind Man.

... More can be thought of.

Mechanically? Echoes of the Beast with the Additional Trapping "Bat-Like Sonar" allowing him to ignore blindness, and maybe a few Strange Senses.

Thematically? Um, Were-Bat, Emissary of Power (granted the ability to 'see' in exchange for service), some sorts of Changeling, almost anything really.

The High Concept should definitely include the word "Blind" so he can be Compelled for that to come up as a problem.

I'm not all that familiar with Daredevil, but hasn't he some kind of staff that can change length? Could make a good Item of Power or even a Focus Item if you go for a minor talent template ...

Make his alertness his top skill and then give him a stunt that allows him to use his alertness for defence perhaps?

He does, but it's not the major point of the character or something I'd turn into an Item of Power. It's kinda in the same category as Batman's batarangs and grapple-gun rolled into one...a cool gimmick, but nothing outrageous.

Not a bad idea for some character variants, though one directly inspired by Daredevil is very likely to have Alertness and Athletics as his two pinnacle skills, and Acrobat to boot. Daredevil does that shit alot.

Hmm, good point. With a high athletics skill, using awareness to defend would be a little redundant. Acrobat is definitely an appropriate stunt, as would Armed Arts and maybe some of the batman stunts that were created on the forum, i.e.

Roll With The Blow (if hit, takes up to 2 less stress from extra shifts in melee attacks

You also might consider giving him the Sight as well to tie him into the supernatural setting of the Dresden Files. If the blind man can "see" monsters and other supernaturally powerful things then he might get motivated to go out and try to fight them. Also the temptation to open his Third Eye and actually see again might make a good if dangerous compel.

Would probably make a good aspect item too...
