Problems with PDF
« on: May 28, 2010, 08:43:09 PM »
Hey, this is probably more a problem with my computer than the files themselves, but I could use some help.  I purchased the pdf files for Our World and Your Story, and have been trying to read through them.  However, lately it seems that my computer has started misreading the text.  Some of the words were garbled.  I tried restarting the program, but now it is even worse--and some of the fonts are changed now.  Does anyone know why this might be happening?  I have a Mac, if that might be making any difference.
I don't believe in things that go bump in the night.  It's more like a thud...

One, two!  One, two!  And through, and through
The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!
He left it dead, and with its head
He went gallumphing back.

I'm on a Mac also and just noticed the same problem today.  Is there any way to fix this?

Have you tried using different PDF viewers? Are you using Preview? Adobe?

Well, I restarted my computer and it seems to have cleared up...still have no idea what originally caused it, though.  I'm reading it using Preview.

If I have too much trouble when I need it, I'll make sure I reboot.  If I keep having problems, I'll just post back here.  Thank you.

For me that sometimes happens on my Windows system as well. Usually it suffices to restart my Acrobat Viewer. Would be a bit annoying to reboot for that, but if that's the only way to make it work for you then you have no choice it seems...

PDF viewers are memory hogs.  What you're experiencing is pretty common across all platforms, and probably just needed that reboot in order to free up more display memory.
