The format of spellcasting

I dont have the pdf my gm does, so i cant look at the spellcasting chapter, i have a rough idea on how it works, like i know you choose three types of elemental things for evocation, and that thaumaturgy is affected mainly by lore, and you have to specialize in a certain kind of thaumaturgy. and i know you cant just post the chapter, so i asked my gm if he can e mail it to me, he hasnt replied but im pretty sure that even if he could, he wouldnt know how. so i was wondering, is that leagal and is it doable?

He's allowed to loan you the whole PDF...as long as you "give it back" (ie: delete it) after a reasonable length of time. Just like you could with a real book. The folks at Evil Hat have said this a few times and are awesome for making this their policy.

I would like to ask something else, while i await this chapter. what are shifts and how do they work. i think their the power behind the spell right?
