Your Episode Ideas Here

I'd like to hear what the influences are for the way magic works in the series.  Is it totally made up?  Connected with current or past occult practices (there seem to be some similarities to some things I've read)?  RPG magic or magic from novels or folklore?  MUDs?  Comics?  Also, what are the influences for the faith component?  What are Jim's personal beliefs w.r.t. the supernatural?

I think most of Nerdfury is spawned from not keeping an open mind about something. Your mind gets all carried away in the months of waiting, then when the show finally comes you nit pick at every single detail. I don't think I would have enjoyed it so much if I set out to focus on the bad.

But as it stands I enjoyed it so much on Sunday night that it almost made me like Monday morning. Me being one of those "Loves Garfield but hates Monday" type of people, that's saying something.

Sent!  It was actually really easy.  I'd already DVRed it, clipped the commercials, and burned it to disc, so I just had to open Audacity and let it run the course of the episode while I took a shower and did some homework.  Mmm, technology!

First of all.  Loving the PODCASTS.  I would like some info from Jim during your next Q&A session (I did do a search first and had no luck)

1.  How many Dresden books is he contracted for?  I first learned of Jim in 2005 and read Storm Front (instantly hooked)  I love that he pounded out a new adventure annually since I started reading. 

2. Can he keep up this pace?  Does he find himself struggling for ideas after nine outstanding Dresden books.  How far does he plan to go.

I ask the question above because I was not an avid reader until I was laid up for surgery back in 2005 and blazed through about 14 of Laurell K Hamilton's books.  And around book nine she started changing focus in a bad way.  Not that I dislike pornography but I prefer mine to be more visual. 

3.  I'm not into deeeeeep sci-fi and I was told that his Alera series is way out there.  I don't read Star Trek, Star Wars, or any of the like.  I would like Jim to give a overview of the that series.

I'm more interested in some of the background characters of the Dresden series.  For instance, how did he come up with the idea of The Knights and the Blessed Swords? Was he at all influenced by Spider Robinson when he developed MacAnally's Bar? What influenced the development of the three Vampire Courts, the two Fairie Courts, etc.  How much does RPG playing influence the novels?

It would not necessarily have to be Mr. Bucher who answers these questions - anybody with a knowledge would suffice.  A lot of the questions I have center around his creativity in building this hugely complex world and making it very believable.

I agree with you on length - 25/30 minutes max is the best podcast size for me and after listening to a lot of podcasts over the past two years in developing my own, I find that the best are in that range - it forces you to be concise and that makes it interesting.  If you have one that goes over, fill it out and break it into a two/three part episode.

I'm really enjoying the podcasts - keep up the good work.

Most likely it has been said, but I really enjoy the idea of getting more wonderful forum people onto the podcast. I feel that it gives a deeper view into the books to discuss it with the fans. I found the interview/chat with Priscellie very interesting, and gave me a new perspective on the books.

As an example of other forum members to have on the podcast, you could always find people who had tried to get more unique items for Jim to autograph. *cough cough*

I am, of course, just kidding......

Assuming a second season, I think a followup to "Bump" that would be excellent would be an entire episode of what happened to Bob out in the death zone.  He didn't want to talk about it, but maybe at a later date Harry could coax it out of him.  A whole episode just about Bob.  Maybe he ran across Winifred there....
