Ok, to find Jim at his table, next to the awesome Hickmans, he's in the center of the dealer's room...main entrance, turn right, go down hall, enter artist alley, say Hi to the Manapunk table on the right, enter the door on the left past the Yelp table, and find the center of that room (past Gil Gerard)

*wave, hi Mickey, I don't see you on the forum outside Media Favorites much :)

That's due to RL time and not lack of interest in the boards. ;) I used to work help desk and would habg out on the boards, now I have to break away from analyzing metrics for helps desk to check in :)

Had a great time at the signing today and apparently got JB a fabulously timed (if unfortunately warm) Mexican Coke right as his current drink ran dry.  Met lots of fun people in line too, although apparently my friends and I were the only ones dressed Dresdenverse (as Molly and random Splattercon!!! goers).  Place was packed and crazy, but glad I got to go!

It was great to be able to meet Jim this weekend.  It was fun to sit in on his writing workshop.  I have no writing aspirations, just wanted to hear him talk. :)

So glad I had books signed on Friday as the line for Saturday looked crazy!  I had about 5 or 6 signed as well as my Kindle cover.  I had more to sign, but as I mentioned, the line Saturday was looooong so I passed on the rest of the books. :)  On Saturday, I brought some Mexican Coke, which I was able to give to Jim when I saw him sitting in front of the table for the gentleman who is restoring the original TARDIS console.

So much fun!

Got to attend Jim's writing workshop on Friday.  This was awesome stuff, with real-life practical tips for crafting fiction - nothing artsy and vague, involving muses and/or writer's block.  :)

The second workshop had a time change from afternoon to morning which made it impossible for me to attend.  At the book signing on Saturday, Jim mentioned that he thought the sessions were being taped and those might be available for viewing later.  Checked with the Con folks, and they said it wasn't their crew.  Anyone out there who might know who to contact about this?  I paid rather a lot for the pass to go to the workshops and I'm bummed I had to miss today's.

I must thank Jim wholeheartedly for enduring the hell that is August in Houston to attend this Con.  Hope he'll come back again someday...

So did you have to pay for tickets or what? I didn't find out you needed a ticket til it was Sunday morning and he was about to start.

WOW, so you had to buy a badge to get into the con, AND you had to purchase tickets to get into venues?

Hmmmmm ... I'm going to have to rething this going to conventions thing.

Tickets to get into special panels like the writing ones, yeah.  You also technically had to have tickets to get books signed too, by purchasing a book from the table though that at least was "reusable" so you could stand in line multiple times. A little pricey, altogether. Oh well.

In the Saturday morning writing panel, Jim dropped two hints about SG, one of which I don't think is known on  the forums yet, is it OK to mention that here?

You'll want to post it in the Dresden Files Spoiler section.

Hmmmmm ... I'm going to have to rething this going to conventions thing.

Writing classes are usually an extra fee. Most panels aren't.

Thanks to Creation Cons, a lot of major guests will charge for an autograph. I don't think Jim normally does...I could be wrong...but he was very specifically brought in for this con by Murder By The Book (who had the tables next to him)...and they're a small mom & pop store that fiances bringing authors into Houston with the one requirement that to get a sig, you need to buy a book of the author's from them. They never charge for you to see the author talk at their store, so this is how they recoup their money. In this case, the "store" was the table at the con.

They sold out of the large stacks and stacks of comic hardbacks for the Dresden by Saturday afternoon, btw.

Well loved store in Houston :)

Thank you SO much, Icecream!  I didn't think I would get to see that final workshop.  Got the rugrat's homework done, and put to bed...time for a treat :)

And Mickey Finn - I am also a HUGE fan of Murder By The Book. They've now allowed me to meet 2 of my fave authors, Butcher and Briggs.  And my husband has gotten to attend see/meet/signing events with Ian Rankin and John Sandford.  I am so very happy to pay the full retail for my hardbacks when I know it goes to supporting an independent bookstore full of smart, well-informed employees who actually READ the stuff they're selling.  Hope they stay around for many years...
