Seliee and Unseliee magic a catch all?
« on: September 29, 2011, 08:01:19 PM »
I was wondering would people allow changelings without glamours to do veils with seliee or unseliee magic what about compulsions, geas  and transformation (pumpkins into carriages, people into hounds)?

I'd probably allow veils, yeah.  They're pretty limited compared to glamours.

Compulsion/geas are right out though unless the recipient is in your debt.  It's Fae magic and it has to follow Fae rules.  Mab used making Harry stab his hand as proof that she held his debt.

Conjuration?  As long as it's not out of line with the idiom of the court they're drawing power from and is appropriately priced and limited.  No full on fairy godmother stuff unless you've got full on fairy godmother chops and it poofs at noon or midnight in other words.
Violence is like duct tape.  If it doesn't solve the problem, you didn't use enough.

I pretty much agree with Mighty Buzzard.

Remember that a lot of the more extreme effects of magic (compulsions, transforming an object or person into something else) can easily require dozens of shifts of effect (enough to fill up all the target's consequences and take them out) as explained elsewhere on this forum.

So, yeah, what you're talking about it possible, sure, but feasible? That's iffy unless you're really powergaming.

You might be right about full compulsion but mental poking seems quite common with fae (like projected lust or hunger) usually through music and voice would you allow faes to pull those type of tricks with Seliee magic.

I think a better question would be does it seem to you to be within the baliwick of the Fae?

And as importantly, is an ability that's common to most fae who can use magic, is it more tied to a particular species of fae, or is it the effect of a glamour or just being preternaturally smokin?
