Crossing over Sin City into the Dresdenverse
« on: April 21, 2015, 02:06:37 PM »
This is an idea I had for crossing over Sin City into the Dresdenverse.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sin_City

The version of Sin City that exists in the Dresdenverse has parrallel versions of the characters in the series.

The Roark dynasty is a branch of the White Court vampires that feed off of greed.  They control the city.

The first "player character" is Marv.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marv_(Sin_City).  His good friend Dwight tells us that "most people think Marv is crazy. He just had the rotten luck of being born in the wrong century. He'd be right at home on some ancient battlefield swinging an axe into somebody's face. Or in a Roman arena, taking his sword to other gladiators like him."

In the Dresdenverse continuity, this assessment is more accurate than even Dwight might know.  Unknown to all, Marv is an amnesiac Einherjar Changeling of the White Court.  His father was a Frost Giant.  His mother was a Valkrie.  The "union" was not consensual.  Marv was abandoned and left for dead, but he survived the winter and was found by Vikings who raised him as one of their own.  When he came of age, he joined the ranks of their warriors and became one of their most ferocious warriors.  Eventually, he fell, and was brought to Valhalla.  Unfortunately, his Frost Giant lineage was detected, and he was denied entry to the afterlife.  His spirit was supposed to be cast out into the netherealm, but his mother snuck him into Midgard where he was reincarnated. He is literally a lost soul, and ends up in Sin City, deprived of his memories.  He's not happy here in Sin City, but at least he belongs...

Inhuman Reflexes? Do you mean Inhuman Speed?

Also, it looks like his skill list thinks he has Inhuman Strength. But his Power list doesn't.

Corrections have been made.  Muchos gracias. I dropped the Inhuman Speed and Strength and opted for more stunts.  He's still bad ass though.

Dwight McCarthy http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dwight_McCarthy is a wizard of the Dresdenverse, struggling to deal with his magical nature.  He pays the bills by working as a private investigator, taking pictures of adulterous men with an old school black and white camera from the sixties for the women that end up hiring him.  He drives a classic American muscle car from the same era.  He used to work as a part-time photographer for a Basin City paper and still gets work and leads from his friends on the staff.

His magical skills only recently allowed him to start using the Sight, but the downside of this is that at night, he is haunted by dreams which are actually unconscious glimpses into the NeverNever.

He is an ally to Marv and the Girls of Old Town, including Miho whom he once rescued from Tong gangsters.

Detective John Hartigan http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Hartigan is pretty much unchanged in this continuity.  He remains a disgraced, veteran police detective of Basin City. He is gruff, stoic, and cynical. He is also completely selfless; he cares little about his own well-being as long as he can protect his fellow citizens. He risks his own safety and reputation to achieve safety for those he cares about, but this dedication eventually may destroy his life. Hartigan possesses a seemingly indomitable will, able to withstand multiple bullet wounds without collapsing, and most notably being capable of willing himself back to life after being hanged. Hartigan has a distinctive way of narrating: he often talks to himself in his head, referring to himself as "stupid old man".

The Summer Court in Sin City are represented by the Old Town Prostitutes.  Many of the girls are human, but their senior members such as Wendy, Goldie, Miho and Gail are either Changelings or full blown Fey.

Miho http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miho_(Sin_City) is a mute, female assassin of Japanese descent. She is one of the Guardians of the Summer Court in this continuity and is part-wind spirit (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kamaitachi).

Miho is easily offended by anti-Japanese racial slurs, such as "Jap slut" and "Jap slag"; in response, she behaves in an even more sadistic way than she normally does). Along with Gail, she serves as an enforcer and defender of the city's Old Town. She is often referred to as "Deadly Little Miho" by the character Dwight McCarthy in his narrations. Despite residing in Old Town, there is nothing to suggest that she herself is a prostitute.

This writeup of Miho is within the same levels as the other PCs, but the way she is portrayed in the comics suggests that she is intended to be more powerful. If you want to boost her power, write her up as follows:

Kevin http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kevin_%28Sin_City%29 is a mute, cannibalistic serial killer who preys on the titular city's prostitutes, The Girls of Old Town. He is protected by the powerful Cardinal Patrick Henry Roark, who also acts as his accomplice. Kevin lives at the Roark family farm, and uses the basement as an execution chamber for his victims; after he kills and eats them, he stuffs and mounts their heads on the walls like hunting trophies.

While he appears harmless and unassuming, Kevin is a fierce, inhumanly fast fighter adept in martial arts; accordingly, the Roark family uses him as an assassin from time to time. He is usually accompanied by his pet wolf, which he feeds whatever parts of his victims he does not eat himself.

In the Dresden continuity, he is a Wendigo http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wendigo

Notes:
Frank Miller has stated that Kevin and Miho are the supernatural beings in Sin City. Miller characterizes them as "demons"; Miho is a good "demon" and Kevin is an evil one.  In this continuity, in an attempt to reflect that balance, they are the most powerful manifestations of the Winter and Summer Court.

You could have weapons with "unparalleled craftsmanship" that would allow a free tag.  But that would be a resource/craftsmanship declaration - not an automatic and permanent +1 shift.
