Magical Defenses:26 shift Ward.8-shift base (lore) +2 for a invoking "Oberon's Fool's Fool". Puck 'blessed' the house.
4-shift remote Ward flame
6-shift land-mine. Aspect "Blinded"
8-shifts duration (total duration: 1 year)
Charlie has created a 8 shift ward(His Lore +fp, along with some other benefits). The ward is multi-layered, made up of a second set of "cameras". These cameras are small Cat's Eye Gems embedded in the old stone of the house.
This acts as a the first line of defense. A second is a series of small 'dolls' which patrol the house. They are the size of a mouse and walk through an intricate series of duct-work that has been installed inside the walls. They look like cute little Raggedy Anne and Raggedy Andy dolls. These dolls can detect intruders and initiate the outer perimeter defences by emitting a magical gas that causes people to fall asleep. If this happens, Charlie calls the police to have them pick up the vagrant sleeping on his door-step.
(this is the Tinker way of doing a ward. Normally, people attacking the ward would take damage if they don't overcome the ward. Narratively, when they attack the ward, they are rewarded with a hiss of gas. Consequences would revolve around becoming groggy, tired and/or falling asleep.
During the renovations, Charlie collected pieces of wood, tile, and wiring from the original house. He worked the wood, sculpted the tile, widdled the wiring and put it all together to make a strange, yet attractive centre-piece in his living-room. It is a small, 8-stringed instrument, roughly resembling a lute. Because it is intrinsically attached to the Threshold of the House, he has enchanted it so that when an uninvited guest tests the wards, the lute will play a note. There is a string or note attuned to each exterior facing room. So, depending on the intonation of the note, Charlie knows from which direction a potential burglar is attempting to enter.
(Craftsmanship Declaration: "hand-crafted Musical Instrument". +2 complexity to act as a Ward flame.)
- Additionally, During the renovations, Charlie found an old silver ring which was missing the gem-stones. He found it behind one of the base-boards. It is a child's ring and, after it was appraised, goes back to some of the original owners. He asked a Jewler to show him how to insert a "mood" ring in to it. He then, went home and did it himself. If someone attempts to enter the house when he is not home, the ring turns black.
(Investigation Declaration: "Ring of a Child from the original owner" +2 complexity. Portable Ward flame)
- Charlie's goal, when renovating was to 'find' the original charm of the building. He gutted it down to the studs, careful to throw anything away that was gaudy and unoriginal and keep anything that was from the original build. Doing so, let him customize the House. Like any man, he loved his toys. At every exit/entranceway, he installed small trap-doors in the ceilings.
(Craftsmanship Declaration: "trap doors" +2 to go towards a land-mine)
Each trap door is fitted with a flash 'grenade'. The grenade goes off leaving the intruder blinded. Additionally, he fitted it with a small camera. When the flash goes off, it takes a picture and wirelessly down-loads it on his computer.
(Resources declaration: "modified flash grenades" +2 complexity towards Landmine)
The camera doesn't always work and the wireless upload often gets shorted out by the ambient magic within the altered grenades. As well, it took a lot of calculating the proper trajectories to figure out the best angles for the grenade to drop.
"Proper Trajectories" Scholarship Declaration to add +2 to the land-mind. Regarding the uploading the camera. If someone fails the to save against the 6-shift "blinded" Landmine by at least 3 shifts, I'll use the Overflow rules to add "Up-loaded Picture" YS. PG.214)
It was not all fun and games, though. During the construction, Charlie fell from the second story through a hole in the wall, giving himself a "twisted ankle"
minor consequence "twisted ankle"
Finally, Charlie created a small, magical 'sun dial' and 'star chart' to best find the best time of the week and day to activate his security systems.
This is a simple Ritual with a complexity equal to Charlie's Lore = 6. to create a 6 shift maneuver: "Ideal Time of Activation"
