Favorite names you've seen used recently?
« on: July 09, 2012, 02:28:23 AM »
I've a new favorite name--- "Longmire" It's a series on A&E, based on a book series by Craig Johnson. I don't know anything about the books, and I've only seen the tv series a couple times---but what a name for the character.

How about you? Any character names that blew you away recently?

I'm curious:  is "Longmire" pronounced as though it's English or French?

Blew me away might be overstating, but there was a superhero named "Warren Peace" in a cheesy flick (sky High) from years ago that still makes me giggle.

As a flip-side, what would you consider the most generic, everyman sort of name?  In other words, the last name you'd expect for a hero/villain to have?  My current short list is Larry, Bob, Jim, Bill, or maybe Murray.

Any diminutive, like Billy, Bobby, Artie, Frankie.

thats actually a rather insightful answer, thank you.  I think the word diminutive pretty much says it all ;)

Im working on a short story (or a comic book, depending on how artistically adventurous I get) about the most powerful superhero around that is completely useless in a fight, so I want the label of superhero to seem as ridiculous as possible.  He'll be overweight, balding, maybe with glasses, that sort of thing.

English -- the same way you say "Long" and "mire"....

I agree Meg -- he's a heck of character and they've already have a second season ordered.... :D

My current fave is Felix Castor. His friends call him Fix. I like that.
