Need Help! City Creation for Manhattan!
« on: January 30, 2012, 07:17:50 AM »
So here's what I have so far:

Manhattan - The city that NeverNever sleeps

Theme - Wake Up Time!
Threat - Red Court Power Vacuum
Theme/Threat -

Status Quo, Supernatural - Trying to catch our breath.
Status Quo, Mundane - We've seen everything.

Movers & Shakers -

Location - Central park    Face - Summer Court
Location - Harlem Face -
Location - Times Square Face -
Location - Woolworth Bldg Face - Red Court remnants
Location - NY Public Library Face - the Archive "Ivy"
Location - Chinatown Face - ghouls
Location - Wall Street    Face - House Malvora (WCV)
Location - St. Paul's Chapel Face - true believers, seeking new KotC
Location - Carnegie Hall Face - White Council

Would love to hear ideas on where to go from here. Sadly, my group is unresponsive when it comes to city creation, as they are used to the old ways, where coming up with the world and the NPCs is a GMs job, not there's. So, I turn to you for help.

Honestly I would likely break Central Park up into a couple of different locations.

Central Park, being 843 acres is ~1.3 sq. miles or 5.8% of the land area of Manhattan.
More importantly, there are a number of interesting and potentially significant features within Central Park.

The Metropolitan Museum of Air opens onto Central Park, and behind it within the park proper, is Cleopatra's Needle, an obelisk from Pharaohic Eygptian.  There is also Belvedere Castle and in the north end of the park the Blockhouse.

In the northern end of the island in the Fort Tryon Park neighborhood, there is the Cloisters which is an art museum and was built from pieces of several different medieval European abbeys.

Plus there is the entire subway and tunnel system beneath Manhattan to consider itself as well.

Hope this helps.

-Cheers

I could see that and there are plenty of other locations in Manhattan I could add, but my real problem lies in knowing what to do with the ones I have already.

FYI, here is my group:

- A time-lost wizard who was raised as a RCV's pet.
- An unsure White Court Virgin, who's rebelling against his family.
- A trickster were-coyote on the run from the Winter Court.

The story started with the latter two following a lead on a possible surviving RCV to some docks, when a time-rift explosion blew up half the boat and plopped the wizard more or less in their laps. Seems he was in the middle of a fight between his master and a Warden and a spell went wrong and shunted him into the present day. He sets off looking for his master, with the other two in tow. The last session ended off with them finding the master in the basement of the Woolworth Bldg.

I'm kind of at a loss where to go from here too.

I suggest looking here and here and here and here

It's all for New York, but you know. Close enough.

I been working on NYC myself, here on the boards. See my thread

for more. Got some things you might want to use, even though the planned campaign is not strictly Dresdenverse only, might give you some ideas. Got some locations, Powers (Faces), and Themes set up.
