:o Not sure press-ganging players and chaining them to the dice is going to work as a friendly recruiting tactic. On the other hand, it could get you players more quickly than the standard methods.  ;D

Does a sock of dice count as an offensive weapon?

I could probably use it as a sap, but I'm not proficient.

My PC dice live in a sock; in fact, they live in whatever happens to be my most comfortable sock at any given time.  It's horribly unscientific, even superstitious of me, but it's also tradition by this point, and I am generally the sort to respect tradition, absent compelling reasons to do otherwise.

DFRPG / Re: Of Mouse and Men ... err actually of Mouse and other critters

Seriously, I'm thinking that Mouse is a lot more than just magical dog, and he stays around for a reason, not just for treats, you know?  I mean, as I understand it (or as it looks to me), Mouse isn't just magical, he's somewhat divine.

One of my favorite things about Mouse, actually, is that's he's blatantly "just" a dog.  A scarily smart dog, sure.  Person-smart, easily, and probably smarter than lots of people.  And gifted with a sort of anti-monster moxie.  But still emphatically a dog in the way he behaves, his priorities, etc.  Hilarious, and (I think) really convincingly done.

One of my favorite characters from the classic "So You Want To Be A Wizard" series was much the same way.

When someone spots me with a DF book and askes what it's about, I usually say something along the lines of "Imagine Harry Potter grew up rough, and found himself in a 1930's hardboiled detective novel, which then grew up rough, and found itself in modern Chicago."

Not the greatest pitch for a game, perhaps, but it usually works well for the books, so if I had to give it a stab, I'd start there.

Personally, I am so stoked for this game to come out... now if I can just find me a group to game with...

I actually found out through a few random quotes I dropped on game night, not expecting anyone to get them, that sometime DM, fellow gamer, and online acquantance of mine is a Dresden fan.  I'm kind of banking on him running a game, and getting some of his regular players interested.

If not, I may have to hit the streets, sourcebook in hand and a sock of dice in my pocket, desperately looking scrounging for three to five players for the next game, a shattered hulk of my former self.

My first choice would be a fairly low-power Sidhe of some sort.  Magical chops, but not the sort to take on a Dresden one-on-one without some serious prep.

Mostly because I think it would be really, insanely fun to play around with 1) not being able to "lie" but constantly bending the truth, and warping perspectives via glamor, 2) constantly, compulsively  maneuvering to get people in one's debt regardless of any actual malice, 3) dealing with cashing in on those debts to make up for not being a powerhouse, and 4) being forced to pay off a few of my own, much to the chagrin of the party.

Plus, hey, isn't Melkarion a pretty decent name for a Fae Knight?

This vortex is CLEARLY an optical illusion.  And, some swamp gas.  Now look over there for a second, if you don't mind...

See?  Everything's perfectly normal now...
