Site Suggestions & Support / Thank you

This is kind of a Support posting.  I just would like to say a big "Thank you!" to everyone who helps run this site, and especially to Mr. Butcher who gives us interesting characters and situations to read about.  Looking forward to the next book!

Site Suggestions & Support / Re: More Suspect Members

Pretty much anybody with a bb style forum gets oodles of these guys. The clutter they cause tends to bog down the mysql database back end, causing the site to be slow, unresponsive an occasionally crash...like these forums are prone to do (as well as many others). Most of them are bots.

Two levels of enforcement that tend to work are:
1) Increasing the obfuscation on the secret word for account creation to maximum. (For some reason the good bots can still manipulate the first two levels of obfuscation.)
2) Enforcing hand-approved account creation. (This one is a pain for a large site, as the approvals required can quickly out-pace and administrator.)
A way it's handled on some sites is restricting new members to certain portions of a board until their posts can be approved or disapproved.  That way you see which ones are definitely junk.  Again, this method works pretty well with either a smaller volume of traffic or a lot of people to police it.  There's a couple of spambot restricting mods out there.  Don't know how well they work, though.

I think they look pretty darn good.  Maybe the gruff doesn't mind the hot casings so much.

Off-Topic:
How is it?
Didnt know there is an Campaing Setting for the Black Company...
There was only one book put out and it's a D20 system (nothing real fancy). They tried to include a little bit of just about everything from the books in it.  The magic system is a little bit different from stock d20, allowing you to shape and create your own magic.  It's pretty interesting, but a little bit different to work with from ordinary DnD.

The 320-page Black Company campaign setting from Green Ronin costs $45, comparable speaking.
