Yep, works now!

You have the rank of

Eldest Gruff

Your total Dresden Files purity rating is 63.5%

All scores:

Supernatural Power:94.2%
Social Skills:69.7%
Armed Combat:9.1%
Unarmed Combat:37.2%

Not too different from my last one. If I could work through enough of my TBR stack I would be higher since I haven't read GS again yet.

So far I like the new version.

It was a nice surprise once I was able to get in this morning (though I did like the message that came up while the new version was loading!).

A bit of a surprise when I pulled it up this weekend, but I think I like the red better.

Author Craft / Re: When is wordy just too wordy?

For some examples of evocative, atmospheric writing that still carries the story, I'd suggest Raymond Chandler's The Big Sleep and John D. MacDonald's Darker Than Amber.  It's the sort of writing where you can smell the wet pavement but the story and characters aren't overwhelmed.

Agreed! I have NEVER thought that MacDonald was wordy.

If we moderators have offended,
Think but this, and all is mended,
That you have but googled here
While these banners did appear.
And this weak and idle link,
No more yielding but stiff drink,
Members, do not reprehend:
if you pardon, we will mend:
And, as I am an honest Payne,
If we have unearned fame
Now to 'scape the serpent's tongue,
We will make amends ere long;
Else the Payne a liar call;
So, good night unto you all.
Give us your hands, if we be friends,
And Priscillie shall restore amends.

NICE!!!

I had actually put Storm Front, Fool Moon and Grave Peril on my "To Read" list but didn't actually purchase them until I saw the "Based on the books by" VERY briefly in the opening credits.

I was contacted off the forum by "Who Else!" books who was having login issues, so they have asked me to reply:

I always like to assist in supporting local businesses, and conventions are one of the places I can do that, so I hope that helps.  I otherwise can claim no affiliation with the business, but they left me a nice note.

Thank you for this information.  Now I can get ALL of my stuff signed!

Another lurker who will be at MileHiCon...Here are some additional comments regarding the convention...

I have to say, considering the number of sci-fi-type conventions that Denver gets, this one is probably my favorite one to meet authors and guests.  I have never had any problems meeting guests who were open to spending time with the fans and convention-goers.  If nothing else, you get to meet a lot of interesting people.

During the Masquerade they typically hold a Literacy Auction with the proceeds going go charities for the purchase of books as well as reading education programs.  They often have rare books, signed copies, and the occassional galley copy.

The hotel this year is a new one for the Con, but over recent years the accomodations have just gotten better.  The area where the Hyatt is located has a lot of restaurants (and other lodgings, if necessary) close by.

There was one thing I was wondering...

Since Backup isn't due to ship to retail locations until the end of October, what are the chances of Jim having some copies that an avid fan might pick up at the Con?

I'm REALLY looking forward to seeing Jim here in a couple of weeks!
