DFRPG / Speaking of RPGs
« on: November 26, 2016, 08:36:48 PM »
Ernie and Luke Gygax of Gary Con would like a certain meat carver at the 2018 Gary Con. Seems that Ernie like the Harry Dresden stories, has heard to Jim is into RPGs, and thinks the two would go great together.

And yes, Gary Con is in honor of Gary Gygax.

The temperature probably had more to do with the fire-code-busting number of people crammed into that room.  It was craziness.

Nobody expected it. They expected something like it, but not as big as it got. And not a comfy chair in sight.

For those not in the know, the space where Jim gave his talk used to be a bakery outlet. That has nothing to do with how warm it got in that space on Friday night.

Before his talk he got a ton of signing done for MG, which is why he was wearing the wrist brace during the talk itself. There was talk in the store itself about getting the space next door wired for events like this.

The sheer size of the event led me to suggest holding Jim Cons. Jim then told me about a Butcher Con a friend had tried putting together. The name was what killed it.

The event was bigger than Jim expected, bigger than Mysterious Galaxy expected. Fortunately I don't think Jim is going to suffer permanent damage to his fingers or wrist.

Jim,

I enjoyed meeting you at MG the other night. To remind you, I'm the one who told you about Greg van Eekhout's upcoming Osteomancer trilogy. Greg's two current works are Norse Code and Kid Vs Squid. Norse Code is the book I couldn't remember at the time.

Looking forward to the current Codex Alera book to be released in paperback, for I can't afford hardback these days. And here's hoping your events subsequent to San Diego were no where near as busy as SD.

DFRPG / Alternate Worlds for a Dresden RPG

Different versions of Earth; different realities entirely. Realms where our nightmares and fantasies are old friends. Earths where magic has never been, until now. How might the system be used effectively in the worlds of The Lord of the Rings, A Song of Ice and Fire, or Daniel Abraham's The Long Price?

Quote
The north-east corner of Seventh and B is fenced off, and most people know better than to enter. But every now and then some damn fool does, which is where I come in.

The victim this time was a boy of fifteen. Handsome in the robust way all teenaged orcs are, but afflicted by the splotchy look of the recently dead. He stared at me with a hunger that gave a noisome light to his eyes, while his one time friend babbled to one of my men. Teenaged boys of all species egged each other on, but I'd thought orcs simply had too much sense for stunts like this.

So there we were, keeping one of the hungry dead warded in downtown San Diego's very own patch of Dead Land, while grilling the suspect in his murder. And the priest assigned to return said corpse to life was down in the South Bay, stuck in traffic.

It's at times like this when I wonder about our virulent antipathy for rendering the undead true dead, then raising the safely still body, when it can't do you harm of its own accord.
