Well, if they can grow meat in the vats, maybe they grow mutton and it comes covered in wool.

Wouldn't it be some pretty blatant copyright infringement if this turned out to be canon?

The thought crossed my mind too.  It'd be a pretty oblique reference, but I could see it.

Cinder Spires Spoilers / Re: Social Status of Warriorborn
« on: October 08, 2015, 06:41:38 PM »
I also think it's interesting to look at the degree to which social standing can trump warriorborn prejudice.  As someone else mentioned, if Benedict had been the heir to his house, he might have had less trouble finding a match.  I also recall the possibility being mentioned of a match being made with someone from a lower house who would thereby gain status despite him being a warriorborn.

Cinder Spires Books / Re: Sample Chapters?

I've noticed that the prologue was scheduled to be released as a sample yesterday, but there doesn't seem to be a link to it.  Anyone know what's up?

Site Suggestions & Support / Re: Touchy Topics Forum

Fair enough. Just thought I'd bring it up, because there's valuable discussions to be had there, but if it's such a drain on resources that it's detrimental to the rest of the forum then it's probably not worth it.  Thanks for the response.

Site Suggestions & Support / Touchy Topics Forum
« on: June 02, 2014, 07:22:31 PM »
I'm aware of the touchy topics rule that forbids discussion of certain topics considered likely to provoke... less than civil dialogue.  A recent comment by another forum poster suggested that there used to be a designated section of the forums for such topics, but that it was then removed.  I didn't want to derail that thread with a discussion of forum history, so I'm posting here to ask, did I interpret correctly?  Was there once a touchy topics forum that was later disabled?  If so, why did the powers that be do away with it?

I'm asking about this because a recent thread in the DF spoilers forum that bordered on or arguably was based on touchy topics was recently allowed to continue for an extended period of time and, IMHO, produced some interesting and valuable discussion.  Given this demonstrated potential, I'd like to humbly suggest that those running the forums consider reinstating the touchy topics board or removing or relaxing the touchy topics restriction.  Obviously such a step should not be taken lightly, and it would require significant scrutiny by the moderators, so I understand if people are reluctant or this is deemed unfeasible.  I just think that it's possible and valuable to discuss the books in relation to important, albeit contentious, issues.

Community Cork Board / Court is now in Session
« on: June 09, 2013, 05:46:04 PM »
Attention gamers!  The Supreme Court of Gaming is now in session!  What is this institution you ask?  Quite simply, the Court is a place for gamers to bring their rules disputes for impartial resolution.  You simply submit your case with all relevant rules references to our email address at supremecourtofgaming@gmail.com, or via our Facebook page, here.  If you check out the main page and decide you like it, you can like us on Facebook or follow us on Twitter @SCofGaming for the latest updates on the state of the Court and when new cases are posted.  More info and full submission guidelines are available in the about section of the blog.  If you like the page, be sure to send in your cases, too.  This concept is going to need user submissions to thrive.  The more you submit, the more I can post!

Whew, that ended up being more long-winded than I intended.  Thank you to those of you who stuck with me.  Happy gaming, and I hope to see you in court!

DFRPG / Mechanical Preview?
« on: December 14, 2012, 11:19:44 PM »
Hey everyone, I've never played the DFRPG before, but I'm an avid fan of both the Dresden Files novels and tabletop gaming.  I can be pretty picky about my game systems though, so I usually like to be able to look through the rules, or at least a significant preview thereof, before making a purchase, especially when they carry as hefty of a price tag as the DFRPG does.  Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find such previews for the DFRPG, and my local gaming shops don't seem to carry it, so I don't have the opportunity to look through the books.  I understand that it's based on the Fate system, which is itself based on the Fudge system, but that whole relationship is somewhat confusing to me, especially taking into account the multiple editions and separate games based off the same system.  Furthermore, I really would like to see how they handled some of the Dresdenverse specific stuff (magic, character races, monsters, etc.) I've checked out Evil Hat's website and looked at some of the preview articles they posted in the run-up to the game's release, but most of those seem to be story-focused, and what mechanics there are rely on specific knowledge of the Fate system, which I lack.

The long and short of this wall of text is if anyone could post a link or instructions on how to find some sort of preview or overview of the DFRPG or the specific version of the Fate system off of which it is based, I would greatly appreciate it.

Ah.  Well that's a relief and a disappointment at the same time.  Thanks for the quick answers though.

DFRPG / Introducing Newbies
« on: December 12, 2012, 06:38:55 PM »
Hey everyone, I've never played the DFRPG, but I'm thinking of starting up a game and I have a couple of questions.  Both my questions stem from the fact that none of the people I game with have read the Dresden Files books.  Given that, do you think they could still get into the RPG in its own right?  And also, if they did read the books at some point after starting to play the RPG, could just looking through the rulebooks spoil anything major for them?

Finding out Jim would be in LA just made my day.  I've never had a chance to go to a signing before and now I'm so stoked!!!  ;D

DF Reference Collection / Re: Mouse's Origins
« on: June 15, 2012, 05:58:23 AM »
That would be how I would interpret the winning exchange as well.  As for speculation on Mouse's siblings, I think we just don't have enough info to speculate much.  We haven't seen any of them since Harry rescued some of them and my mythology knowledge may not be so great but I'm not aware of any demons that generally look like giant purple monkeys that fling burning poo.  So yeah, not much to go on.
