DF Spoilers / Re: What questions should Harry be asking?
« on: November 09, 2019, 01:24:47 PM »
I agree Harry needs to learn Winter Law.  He could swing it as aiming to be a better knight, but the downside is if Mab's version of Physical Therapy involves a shotgun, I imagine a pop quiz would be writing an essay while bullets pop by.   Or a bomb goes off.

DF Spoilers / Re: WAG: Mirror! Mirror!
« on: November 06, 2019, 11:25:40 AM »
I am more interested in how others will have changed.  People like Marcone and Molly.  Without Harry being a positive role model if he goes evil, then Molly's infatuation will not turn to more than that.  She could end up under the care of Morgan or Luccio for training.

While Marcone could be more heavily involved with the Knights during the events of DM.  If it was his life that Shiro saved instead of Harry's.  We saw what the death and injury of an innocent child did to Marcone, now that one man, a stranger who had no reason to help him, gives his life to save Marcone's from death.  It could be enough to make him walk away from crime altogether and take up Shiro's Sword.

Mostly I want the latter because I have the scene of a confused Good!Harry running soon after arriving and people trying to kill him, getting to a street when a car stops.  Inside is Marcone dressed in simple clothes.  He takes one look at Harry and says, "Come with me if you want to live."

DF Spoilers / Kringle's Workshop
« on: November 06, 2019, 11:17:59 AM »
Considering how important the gifts he brings are, how one could try and trick or hurt or corrupt the receiver from a tainted gift, I wonder if Harry didn't realize it because there are so many levels, but he past by Kringle's workshop when visiting Odin.

Or would she thop be located at the North Pole under similar protections as the World Tree?

I also wonder how many Christmas-themed spirits bow to Kringle, like the Tomte of Scandinavian culture, think 3ft tall gnomes who deliver presents in that region.

DF Spoilers / Re: Elaine, Trojan Horse? "It was the knife..."
« on: October 24, 2019, 11:04:07 AM »
Actually, I recall one moment when Lea acted strangely in SK.  When Harry summons her and described his thoughts and desires, Lea grabs the knife for just a moment.  Not just pats it, but grips it.  I figured it was Nemesis considering Harry knows to much and needs to be removed, but Lea resisted the urging.

And it was later during the chaos of the battle did Maeve become infected.

I think Maeve just wanted Elaine's blood to control her.  If she could not only remove Summer's player from the field but gain herself a wizard servant like her mother has gotten Harry, then she would prove her skills and worth.  "Mommy got this cool new toy.  I want my own version.  Then maybe she will see me as a big girl and love me."

DF Spoilers / Re: The Next Knight
« on: September 29, 2019, 11:25:11 AM »
I have been of the mind for years that Marcone could be a Knight, but not one of Love.  If Butters hadn't taken up the Sword, I would have pegged Marcone for Fidelaccius.  He has the same strength and faith in his actions.  He holds true to his ideals and doesn't compromise.  If he had been nudged differently, a moment of redemption was possible.  Like in Death Masks when he was tapped by God to be part of the plot to stop the Denarians.  He used the similarly old fake shroud to pull two heavy men to safety with their combined weights over 500lbs.

Personally, I want to see Harry in Mirror Mirror encounter a few WCB Knights.  So, he arrives in the alternate world, runs from others hunting him, and gets to the street when a car pulls up and Marcone in a plain simple suit looks at him and says, "Come with me if you want to live."

As for Thomas, to be the permantent holder for Amoriccius he needs more love.  Michael held a universal love for his fellow man.  Thomas doesn't care about all those other people in the world.  He is focused on his family, loved ones, and friends.

Now William the Werewolf as a Knight of Love . . . defender of the weak, leader of his clan, happy loving marriage strong enough to break the bindings of fae magic.  It could happen.

Or, you know, Nic could hire them off their employer.

True.  Which makes me think Kringle was the one who hired them or had them hired by a proxy and the proxy wasn't going to release them from their contracts.

So to continue my Jack and Jill scene, Peter hires Jack, but Peter is paying a debt to Paul, who is doing a favor for Mary, who is taking orders from Odin.  And Nicodemus only knows right now Peter is the contract holder and he won't budge.

DF Spoilers / Re: Drakul is the third Walker

Your theory is good, although I couldn't tell if you were saying Lucifer was an Outsider or not...I think Jim makes a pretty strong distinction that he isn't. He also has stated that they are not working together, and that Lucifer isn't Nfected. Something to do with Archangels being Absolute and such. And that Lucifer wants Creation to exist, he is merely engaged in an argument with God about its nature or some such. Where as the Outsiders just want to obliterate it.

I agree that there is enough *something* for Lucifer to produce a child. Even Drakul can. Which would imply that "love" and indeed GTWG are not necessarily directly required to create life. But that opens up a whole new can of worms.

I wasn't meaning Luci was an Outsider, rather to produce the Anti-Christ, Luci could possess or have a shadow possess a mortal man who sires the child with a woman.

DF Spoilers / Re: Wizard McFee from “Changes”

Besides being a go-to established character, these switchboard workers, as other have noted, are likely skilled in this technology and trusted to not mess up communications.

The radio operator in a military base has to be a trusted calm person who can receive and send sometimes coded messages.  They have to be intelligent.

And the White Council could have very few people in that department at the moment.

Why is one year a war fine and another a danger to others?  Economic reasons.  Perhaps right now, outside of Harry's awareness, the world isn't as stable in certain areas.  If the assault happened and the pressure was right inside, the dam could break and cause a major flood of outsiders inside.

I wondered if Loki was one of them, but Odin had him detained.

Important to note, also, as that these mercenaries all operate on such a level that A) Nic could hire them and B) Nic couldn't hire them away from their current jobs.

That, alone, is pretty badass.

Not really.  The Supernatural world takes commitments deadly seriously.  If I hire Jack to impersonate Jill for the next month, Jack will do it, and if Nicodemus comes along in that month with a job that would make it impossible to do my job, Jack would have to decline or be an oathbreaker to me.  I would tell everyone from the mountain top Jack's loyalty can be bought with cash and he will betray you for the right price.  His name would be ruined.

If these two were on contract, they would risk their entire reputations on leaving one job early for another.

DF Spoilers / Re: How did the Red Court Originate?
« on: August 22, 2019, 11:43:53 AM »
White Court are born as the offspring of a WCV and a mortal, but also must kill someone during their feed to become a full WCV.

Objection.  Connie Barrowill from the Bigfoot trilogy is a full White Court vampire because her power awakened in her first sexual encounter with Irwin.  The fact he doesn't die doesn't mean she isn't, biologically, now a Whamp.  It meant, as her father feared, she could be seen as inadequate.  She became one of them without actually finishing her kill.  She "failed" finishing this "sacred" first act of Whamp-hood.

But her healthy relationship with Irwin and his strong life force does show in universe a vampire feeding on the life force of a non-human.  It could be she becomes a lot stronger more quickly because of Irwin's healthy life force, like the paranet papers saying some ancient reds fed on the blood of gods.

I like the concept of Drakul being an outsider trapped and unable to die.  Perhaps Vlad II was a real man who sacrificed his own life and existence to save his people from this evil and became a human prison for it? Or was some evil person who sought power but didn't understand the price.   Like how Fallen is trapped in a coin and, when it has a host, a human-shaped can.  They can do more things but are still limited by a human's reach.

As for SoS and Dracula being born, two possibilities.  If Drakul is the human-shaped can the outsider is in, then some of that plumbing still works and there could be enough of his soul left to care for someone to produce a child.  And like that, maybe Lucifer will posses a human to conceive a child that way.  He will use the love of these two mortals to force the creation of his offspring.  After all, Nicodemus shows his plumbing still works in having made a daughter after he was possessed, and several centuries after he found the coin.

And while love is nice in the creation of a new soul, I don't think it is needed in all cases, otherwise you set a bad precedent for when rape causes pregnancy.  I don't think you want to say there is love in that moment when the victim is against this from happening,  nor that any kid born from rape is "soulless" as the parents' souls didn't merge into a third.

It is just that an act of love is a type of creation but not all types of creation are acts of love.

DF Spoilers / Re: Mort's House in Ghost Story
« on: August 07, 2019, 12:52:52 PM »
If Mort was using his home as a business, it would weaken the threshold around it.  Add in, I don't think the lemurs got inside.  They had mortal thugs go inside and take Mort.

DF Spoilers / Small Favor Reread: Who Has Thorned Namshiel?
« on: July 29, 2019, 09:30:34 PM »
Just finished a reread of Small Favor and I noticed this question of who took the Coin is still not answered.  I have laid out my ideas on six options for the fate of this Fallen One.

For Option 1, I don't see Marcone as stupid enough to risk using the Coin, or giving it to someone to try and control.  He would keep it in his vaults, maybe one of the ones Harry walked by during the break-in.  He knows the Church is corrupt, and so is trusting his own facilities to hold the Coin.

For Option 2, Vadderung doesn't need the Coin, but will secure it like any dangerous weapon.  He could also use his Kringle mask to give the Coin some well deserved "coal" for being a bad boy all these millennia.

For Option 3, while tragic, it would just fit Harry's luck that some poor schmuck finds the coin without knowing the danger it possesses, and Harry has to deal with the victim.  Pray it isn't found on someone's birthday.

For Option 4, I don't think Luccio ever was asked about the matter, but the White Council could have the means to secure the Coin from others.

For Option 5, similar to 4, but Peabody could have taken it from her and past it onto others so he could be reconstituted in a new host to work more with the Black Council.

For Option 6, while Mab doesn't typically go after such beings, this Fallen was instrumental in attacking her home.  She went after Nicodemus for just breaking his word to her and damaging her name with the Accords.  She would feel fully justified in making this Fallen One suffer as best she could, or maybe lock it away deep in her castle.

So, where is the Coin?

DF Spoilers / Re: Name someone you want to appear in Peace Talks

Fitz would be interesting to see again.

Jim Butcher, who will be introduced in one scene only for his manuscript-in-progress to be wiped out when Harry wanders too close to his laptop, then he goes off grumbling that he has to start the whole book over again and he'll have to tell his publisher to push the release date back a few years.

Are you sure it won't be George R. Martin?
