Seems like it's a wash either way.
The reckless guy who always leaves the building on fire would take power over control and the studious fellow whose attacks are like surgical strikes takes control.

With great preparation I can see power being better, but only if you can set up first. Assuming you have the time to set up all the free tags you need to control all the power you can call up. The power heavy player can overcast higher than the control heavy character. As far as I understand there is no upper limit to how many tags you can apply to a roll if they make sense. You just have to prep or get your ass kicked for the whole story and hoard those fate points.

Could you take a living animal and put it in a hibernation/cryo state. Alive but inactive.

Sounds like a ritual to take the creature out. Not sure how you would then train/compel it to patrol the grounds when triggered.
Another thought if you didn't have any magical compulsion on the creature when it awoke would you be breaking the first law if it killed someone?

Would animating a taxidermied animal be covered under biomancy?
Say I want a ward in the form of a large animal that patrols the outer perimeter of my house. Can biomancy cover that or would it be something like binding and summoning or necromancy.

Actually, magic never really gives "+X" to a skill. The spell is used instead of doing the skill check.

What's commonly refered to as "skill replacement" is the use of magic to "solve impossible problems". Harry's Tracking spellis a "skill replacement" with the spell standing in for an Investigation check.

I know this is off topic but...
For something like the fairy ointment potion it would be 6 alertness not +6 to your alertness skill. I ask because I plan on using an enchanted item on fairy specs +4 alertness to see through fairy glamours and illusions.

Wow those are awesome.

Quick question, Can you do skill replacements at the speed of evocation if the complexity is below your lore?
What do skill replacements cost? 1 shift per +1 skill, is the scene the default duration?

Say I want to boost my fists by growing bear arms. Would it be better to do a skill replacement or should it just be a maneuver that gives me the aspect "Right to bear arms."
The maneuver costs 3 shifts so that's pretty easy. Are bonus free tags on aspects if you "succeed with style" just a fate core thing?

Can rituals apply multiple affects like for instance giving someone +3 fists, +4 might and an aspect "right to bear arms" for a total of 10 shifts? or would that need the additional 5 shifts to take out a willing target?

I may be looking into a self sponsored biomancy as the game progresses for evothaum.

Looking for some super cool biomancy rituals

I'm planning on doing a bit of shapeshifting. For the most part it will be how I describe sprinting and skill replacement rituals, but what other cool stuff can I do with biomancy?

Side question: which element would biomantic evocations fall under?

DFRPG / Water Magic like water bending
« on: September 23, 2014, 10:19:41 PM »
I have a player who likes to use her water magic like a water bender, but I'm always confused on whether the magic should be ground out by the water she's using.

The first incident was awesome so I let her do it, but how would you guys rule this for future reference?
The Sorcerer fills a room full of ghouls with fire then the wizard steps up behind him and with the drum of holy water they brought along creates a wave of holy water from one end of the room to the other filling the zone satisfying the their catch and finishing them off.
She was creating running water should that make the spell more difficult because of said running water?

How would you guys do an enchanted item that allows a specific animal form?

Say a lucky rabbit's foot that turns you into a rabbit for a scene.

Sound-mancy skill replacement: Craftsmanship.

Sorry this was too good to pass up: Sonic Screwdriver

Transformation/Disruption EvoThaum that attacks Mental.

Transforms the mind of the target into a beast coloring their instincts. Maybe a bird so they jump off the roof of a building trying to take to the sky. Or a loyal dog to make for a better servant.

How about: Air x Attack Social.

DFRPG / Teleports and Hearthstones?
« on: July 18, 2014, 11:55:47 PM »
Hey folks,
I have a PC who would like to create 7 hearthstones (long range teleports to a specific location)
The character is a sorcerer focused on transportation and world walking who's been living in Fairy for a while so I feel like he should be able to do it. I'm just not sure how to rule it.

Enchanted Items
I don't know if it make sense to use his Enchanted Item slots since those are limited to the strength of his lore (Great +4). Even if he used all his slots which seems pretty harsh to take away all his slots.

Thaumaturgy
I'm guessing this is the way to do it. Have him create a stone circle/platform and chip off the pieces as the hearthstones. Now he's got the symbolic link to the location. What kind of complexity would you put on a ritual to create the stones and how long would you have them last before they had to be refreshed.

A Way
Can you create a Way that doesn't go through the nevernever but instead shortcuts to the place.
Like that thing that guy did that time in that place with the lightening gate. (being spoiler free is hard)

Do you guys have any other thoughts on how to do it or limitations you would place on it.

Thanks!
