DF Spoilers / Re: "Thou Shalt Not Open the Outer Gates"

A few musings...  Do we know if Justine has any magical capability of her own, or is that even needed as long as you perform the proper ritual for summoning outsiders (like following a recipe), given that these are things that WANT to enter our world, whereas other beings might object to being summoned? Or could it be that she is a willing host for the walker, and the walker then temporarily granted her the magical spark, in the same scence that the fallen angels in one of the denarian coins can lend you powers temporarily, and they act through you?

If I remember correctly there is also a woman in one of the short stories in Side-Jobs, who is a fae and uses a credit card. With a microhip in it if I recall correctly (and as far as I understand it, the US is way behind Europe for that).  Don't have the book, so I cannot verify, but I recall Dresden realising that she could use it meant that she was supernatural and not a wizard/sorcerer.

Yeah, Gatekeeper sent them all to sleep, right? Even more impressive since they were on a boat (surrounded by running water, basically). It wasn't very far, but still.

I label "brawlers" wizards who would win in a one-on-one magical slugfest against Harry. Luccio (at least Original Luccio), Morgan, Ebenezer, Gatekeeper, Cowl, and probably the Merlin would certainly kick Harry's ass. That doesn't mean the others wouldn't win, I just think they'd probably not do it by tossing fire around.

The Merlin would most likely kick Harry's ass. He didn't become the Merlin by collecting bottlecaps. And we know he is a sneaky bastard with contingency plans for his contingency plans. However, if Harry were lucky...

There was some comment by Jim about how Rashid killed some Arab wizard from, I think, some Lovecraft story. The wizard was from the 12th or 13th century, making Rashid at least 700 calendar years old. On the other hand, he spends a lot of time in the far reaches of the Nevernever, so it is likely that his actual age is much younger, but if he has some sort of mantle that prevents, or even slows, his aging, he could be even older.

Well, he took down the Mad Arab, who according to H.P. Lovecraft wrote the Necronomicon...
We also know that he is not the strongest wizard, but the most dangerous.

Huh, that's interesting. I bet some people like one version over the other. Must be confusing for GM's?

Probably, not sure on how large the differences are between the different versions. And the latest version is marketed as 5e, and there they are taking up the old metaplot again... But after some debacles on some books, I gathered that the company would continue to just license out stuf and lett others write. Others like the ones that made Chronicles of Darkness. It is complicated to say the least.

Gray didn't want to push things, that doesn't necessarily mean he's a threat. I want to say the cultists got onto the property at Michaels, and yet weren't immediately squashed, so obviously there's certain threats that the Angels will or will not engage.

Well, the cultists were mortals, and thus engaging in an excersice of Free Will. The Angels can't do anything about that.

Huh. So did the vampires get powerful as well, or what? That sounds like an interesting game.
Neat. I know there's a Dresden Files game; I read a recap/review of it, but some of the mechanics seemed confusing.

Yes, vampires of low enough generation (earlier and thus older vampires) were insanely powerful in WoD.
Someone did a spoof way back having the generation 2 (i think) vampires fighting each others. It was like:

A: Using superstrength: I take the moon, and throw it at you.
B: Using powers to hide moon completely from any senses.  "What moon?"
C: Using power to pierce any illuisions and magic hding things: "That moon..."
D: Being the target of the attack, uses power to make itself invulnerable... "No problems, I am tough enough to handle it.." Brushes off the attack in best Bond villain Jaws-style.

Problem with the old games were that even though it was obvious that they all took place in the same world (and they had a metaplot), the company doing them was like: "No, these are all separate games, no connection". And the rule-systems were similar but (not always so slightly)  different in each of the games...

And then you have the Chronicles of Darkness, which is a licensed version that has got its own setting, and similar rules (but imo much better), and the base there is that you are a mortal.

Author Craft / Re: Is there anybody left in here. I'm writing!

Well, I have managed to write a little bit every day so far this year. My Steampunk-story is currently at slightly over 33 000 words, and with afterword and so on, 48 pages.

Since I got stuck, I decided to skip some chapters and jump to a chapter near the end instead.  So now, I will just have to try and write the other stuff before that to link it up with the previous chapters...

DF Spoilers / Re: Battle of Hastings was a Stone Table fight
« on: December 30, 2018, 12:02:23 AM »
Technically we don't know that it is the battle of Hastings that were the last time since Mab and Titania spoke to each other. Very likely, yes. But if I recall correctly, what was said was "We haven't spoken with each other since Hastings".  So theoretically it could be that they haven't spoken since they were in Hastings or something involving someone named Hasting (Or more likely some with the title Hastings. Like Lord Essex in Elisabethean times)

Now, Jim has said though that a lot of things were happening at that time.

Guess it could also be depending on how powerful they were. Agatha was powerful enough if I recall correctly to have created her own "shadow-world" in the Nevernever.

Thanks for the compliment.  I hope your book is cooking along at high speed.

The Deposed King

Good speed, is perchanse a bit much to say. ;) I have been working on it for more than 10 years. On, and (mostly) off again. But I have now during the past sessions done 6.5 handritten A5-pages (did some more writing today). The story itself is 40+ A4 pages and some 30 000 words.

Well done with your book Deposed King.

I did a little bit of writing yesterday. Sat outside in the sun at the Steampunk bar in Gothenburg, and wrote a little bit on my steampunk-story. Now I only need to get it from handwritten state to the computer and expand the chapter....

But it is a start at least

It is my understanding that Ivy is a member of the Accords in her own right. She is often used as an Arbiter because she is neutral, but I do not think she is actually a full time Arbiter. She could be present as just another Accords member and someone else may serve as an Arbiter if one is needed.

Whoever is the arbiter would need to have enough Power to be able to actually do something about anything that neccesitates involvement.

Don't know what is in it, but you have "Sex on the beach". which could be "Murphy in Hawai'i"   ;)

It's sort of like why they official rules for quiddich penalties are a secret.

Telling the players would just give them ideas.

LOL. Well they would find ways to technically adhere to the rules, but violate them in spirit.
