i would suggest trying to break in via science fiction magazines, gain a reader base, then sell online. it may be a good idea to have several stories ready before going that route though. places like sci fi today and asimov's pay between 5-8 cents per word and look for 1500-7500 words. they prefer around 5000 words. ive been looking into doing this too, just did some preliminary research. good luck

if he is changing to third person perspective then the narrator is describing everything. i thought he mentioned that he was not gonna do first person perspective. if he does third person then there is no voice for each individual character until the dialouge comes into play. if its first person with multiple view points then it sounds like its gonna be a head ache trying to voice each person differently.

i dont think you need to start each chapter with the persons name: John kicked the ball... sorta thing. but i do think its a good idea to put that characters name somewhere in the first paragraph. you could describe a setting or something and include the persons names a sentence or two into the paragraph. that way you take away the mystery of who the character is without writing it in an elementary way. just my 1.413 cents

Author Craft / Writing group

I don't know if you guys already have something set up already but I'm wondering if any of you unpublished authors would be interested in starting a writing group to critique each others writing and give constructive feedback. Networking is always a good thing and support from a group can be a huge motivator when the going gets tough. If interested then hit me up and lets get started.

i do all my writing by hand and then type it later. ive written 7 chapters and typed out 1 1/2 chapters, taking the oppurtunity to revise while im at it. writing is hard work, especially when juggling active duty military and family into the equation

i appreciate the thoughts. im feeling pretty good about the third person narrative so far. i do have another question. when you do lengthy dialouge coming from a character when they tell a story, how do you use the quotation marks for the paragraph breaks? for example my character tells a story that requires about 5 paragraphs and there are some quotes inside that story, so do I throw the quotes at the beginning of the story and the end of it like a term paper where i steal info off google or do i put quotations for each paragraph? i hope this is an easy question to understand...

also, im not sure if this has been brought up or not, but what do yall think of books written in 3rd person, past tense? thats how i started this book and its flowing pretty good, but most of the books ive read recently are in first person, present tense...
