I think of metal and earth as being combination elements.

Metal is earth that has been purified by fire.

Wood is earth that has been infused with water. Or water that has been fortified by earth.

In the Avatar-verse, metalbending is a special subset of earthbending, and I think there was a tribe of people who controlled plants via waterbending.

In Codex Alera they frequently use fire/heat to prevent watercrafters from calling on their furies. So fire/heat/dryness would be one way to counter water magic/beings. I'd also imagine that running water wouldn't really negatively affect a water creature. If anything, rain or a spray from a hose might be healing for the water spirit, like some Mephits in D&D that get fast healing when exposed to their element.

Random thought about the human sacrifices thing...what if the number of sacrifices you had to make to get another complexity boost went up the table? So 1 sacrifice for +2, 2 for +4, etc.?

Or what about making another character who had some enchanted items that were magic clothing he made?

I'm not sure about Derek's Needle and Thread stunt. Do you really think that character will be doing a lot of sewing? Also, maybe Entropic touch could give that effect to his Craftsmanship?

Perhaps instead Rote Mastery could give you 2 mild consequences that could only be used for absorbing the stress of rote spells?

And I kind of think Arcane Intellect could give 2 more rotes instead of one.

What about being able to use Evothaum but only when using rotes?

I'd maybe put the different military units in there.

4 = adventuring party
8 = adventuring party and allies, pack of wolves
16 = a squad, a SWAT team
Platoon, street gang
Company,
Battalion
Regiment

That's what I've got right now.

Perhaps in the spirit of Fate, the groups could have descriptive names as well numbers?

I think this is an awesome idea. Could the area chart also incorporate things like exceptionally large creatures and vehicles?

Evocation and thaumaturgy could have their own powers.

Taking sponsor debt to move down the area/group tables?
