IMO it has nothing to do with Odin. The Swords (or at least their true purpose) were never Murphy's style.

She's great when fighting outright monsters like the Red Court, but... well, she was always about punishing the guilty as much as protecting the innocent. It's like she said to Harry in Skin Game:

"I don't want to save [Denarians]".

That is the core of the issue. And to her credit, she knows it- it's why she rejected the thing in the first place.

I mean, Thomas is going to spend an indeterminate amount of time on Hell Island reliving everything he did to his victims. If anything, he's being overly-punished and anyone that finds out is gonna think that Dresden has absolutely zero chill.

Trust is a two way street Harry, you learned this in like, book 3 with Murphy, remember?

My personal theory is that since we now know hhwb wasn't sent by Justin, he was sent for him.

Which meant that Justin (who had hijacked Maggie's Starborn plan for his own ends) needed Harry and Elaine ready early, which meant abandoning traditional brainwashing/conditioning in favour of Magical alternatives.

Unfortunately for him, hhwb was able to turn Justin's anti-outsider wmd against him.

The relevant point is probably that Bob was the one doing the magic, not Butter's so he's clear as far as the universe is concerned. The council might have a different view, but they aren't likely to start anything over it because he's a knight now.

Besides, if they ever looked into him they'd probably be so impressed by Butters genius and manliness that they'd depose Langtry and elect him the new Merlin, never mind charging him.

I mean yes but also no. If you look at Harry's internal dialogue in that moment it's very much reminiscent of the end of Cold Day's when he let the mantle in too deep.

Like how he refers to Rudolph as a 'thing' or how he's happy that Sanya shows up to stop him because he'll put up more of a fight.

The other Swords aren't active because Heaven outsourced recruitment to some asshole in Chicago that was too busy wallowing in self pity/sleeping at the wheel to find any more knights to weird them.

I don't think she does want him to succumb. She wants him to fight it, and in doing so become a colder, more ruthless version of himself. Keep the will and defiance (because those are useful) and get rid of those silly useless things like Conscience and Compassion that reduce his effectiveness.

As for why? Because she's Mab. She is Callous and Cruel, and Cold, and Ruthless beyond measure- and she firmly believes that is the best way to be for her purposes.

Tldr: Mab is a Hard Sidhe making Hard Decisions while Hard.
