Additionally if you're a follower of a well known deity, and everyone knows that this deity doesn't protect her followers from natural objects then you might get more for it being common knowledge.

Well outside of the area they have invaded the Deity is essentially unknown ;D
But the situation won'r persist. It is a war setting and the enemy intelligence will soon hit the desks of the powers that be.

yep, pull up a small tree and beat him soundly (at least until you kill the plant).
Try to use a seasoned walnut walking stick and your out of luck.

It's actually for a game I am in where the ref is using DF to emualte the old WEG TORG license.
The character is, for those of you that know, an Edeinos devotee of Lanala.

DFRPG / Need a rating for an Inhuman Recovery/Toughness catch

Hi all, having a bit of trouble deciding on the degree of the following catch for Recovery/Toughness powers.

ok the power is granted to the character directly from his Goddess, a shamanistic deity with a love for live and all the sensations and emotions that it entails.
The Catch is that any and all "natural" weapons bypass the powers. So guns, knives, lasers etc. all affected by the powers.
Fists, Teeth, freaky living bone swords inhabited by demons etc. go straight through.

Essentially anything that is not "alive" is anathema to Her will.

Any suggestions for the values this should qualify for?

London local so can give some insights into the capital at least.
The city is literally an international melting pot. It has more "little italy's", "China Towns", "Homberg Highways" and "Metropolitan Mecca's" than almost any other major city.
So not just the history (both native and imported through imperial 'theft' and immigration) but you can cherry pick the perfect stereotyped cultural nemesis or bad guy of your choice.
The city is equally well developed below the ground as well. Not the most up to date and modern, but certainly one of the most complex subterranean transport networks.
You have closed stations, an entire rail network "just" for the postal service, a line for Harrods, complete MOD war tunnels, old stops, new stops, forgotten stops.
Victorian sewer tunnels, some of which are so badly clogged that they haven't been cleaned in decades.
A water ring main that you can literally ride a bike down (although it is now full floor to ceiling with water), at least 7 natural rivers that got forced underground simply by the virtue of being build over.

Place names that could act as aspects all on their own.
"Blackheath", "Piccadilly Circus", "Seven Sisters", "The Houses of Parliament", "Traitors Gate", "Centre Point"

More museums than you can possibly see in one day, but the range of types of venue within spitting distance from each other is the best thing.

You're never more than 10 meters away from a rat. Which would make a wonderful regional aspect.

For a truly wonderful presentation of a British supernatural mythoi you should try Gaiman's Neverwhere. Even the horridly shot tv mini series is worth watching.

I think the biggest thing that would diverge a DV UK from DV US would be the sheer weight of history. History coupled with tradition, the powers that be would be "hellishly" well embedded in the status quo.

Just my two penneth

DFRPG / Idea for a character and need help with one of the features
« on: January 26, 2012, 04:17:26 PM »
Hi all,
Just gotten into both the books and the RPG and was thinking about giving my own game a go.
One of the players has a cool idea for a character and I need some help with one of the aspects (lower case a) of the character.

She wants to play Destiny Smith, an Emissary of Power and the idea is that the PC is the mortal 'literal' Daughter of Fate, chance whatever you want to call it.
Now the emissary of power bit works quite well as her Lineage will be known and she will have to deal with the baggage that comes along with it.
Her forebears have a reputation for bringing "ill luck" with them when they arrive. Their arrival almost always heralds the fact that fate has decided to take a hand in unfolding events or at least to monitor things to make sure they unfold correctly. Bad guys hate it!
Essentially Fate's plans can be thrown awry and it is her daughter (on earth) who is charged with the sometimes machiavellian task of bringing the universe back to its correct path.

How to do this?

Well I already thought about a REALLY holistic approach and doing it all via declarations but that sounds a little cop out'y as it isn't going to give the character anything that cannot be done by everyone else already.
I liked the idea of a power that allowed the application of compellable aspects, almost always fragile, to represent the little tweaks that the PC is able to pull off on Fates loom (momma doesn't let her do anything big unless its already part of HER plan). Maybe allowing the free (ie. no roll required) assignment of one or more declarations per scene?

Any ideas? and also how much should that sort of thing cost?

Ta

John
