Thanks, Magicpockets, perfect reasoning.

I'll throw in another Catch question here:
A player, who's character is the Emissary of an Elemental Dragon of Earth, wants "Hardwood" as his catch.
His reasoning is that Wood opposes Earth in chinese Mythology and thus easily researchable with a magical library +1
And wood is easy to come by +2

I just can't picture regular fights in which the character is that often attacked with wooden weapons that his Catch might be worth the +3.
What are your opinions?

Regarding the power Telekinesis.
Would you allow the usage of other skills over range?
Like Larceny for pickpocketing or Craft for repairing a car out of a comfy chair. Negatively modified by your Discipline skill.

Or should that rather be an upgrade that allows tactile sense through you Telekinesis and thus better justifying for skills like pickpocketing?

I don't know if this has been done before. Didn't find anything in the Wiki.

True Seeing [-2]
A more specialised form of The Sight allows you to pierce any Power that hides somethings True Appearance from you. Might that be a Veil, Glamour or Shapeshifting.

Don't know if its overpriced/underpriced or if it should just give a substantial bonus.
I gave that power to a Priest NSC in my game.

DFRPG / Re: New Template, Plus Some Rambling About Optimization

I am thinking along the same linkes as Vairelome considering melee weapons vs ranged ones.
But maybe we could get something different for melee and ranged weapons?
Like instead of Blood Drinker a Feeding Dependency for using the weapons powers to bring pain and death to your enemies and the more Hunger you get the more the weapons urges you to kill?

Would have the "disadvantage" of bringing another +1 refresh to the template, which might be overkill.

Also what i miss as a template is some kind of Mythic Warrior, or Shaolin gone Badass. http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/CharlesAtlasSuperpower
Someone with magical potential that focused it in years of practicing physical tasks. (If you know Shadowrun: Adepts)
It could go with either any of the Inhuman * powers (or even supernatural *) or even Modular Powers, if you can focus your energies into different shapes. If Power Corrupts also Demonic Co-Pilot.

"Sarah Brown" (Submerged)
High Concept: Fetch Changeling
Thanks for building that one. Got a far more tragic twist than what i thought off when i post my request but i like the idea.
It could serve very well as a character to show the other characters the cruelty of winter, the "Between the worlds" issues of changelings and that not everyone initially appearing evil has to be so. (Or the other way around if they first meet Sarah Brown)
Poor girl, though.

DFRPG / Re: Molly's Sensitivity to Combat - How to Model
« on: September 20, 2011, 12:09:42 PM »
I don't think that limiting the amount of action is to small a price to pay but i think it is not that apropriate.
In Changes she didn't turn into a fearful wreck while she was in combat but after, so a solution that harms the mind over time seemed to fit the canon more, imho.
I see the stress from combat similar to the stress from soulgazing and thus looked for a similar approach.

I think the "usual" approach would be making it an Aspect and working through Compels.

I'd replace Cascade of Sensation with something along the lines of:
Psychic Feedback. Whenever you are in a fight and another person, or anything that is capable of feeling pain, takes Physical Stress you suffer from an Mental Attack with the same amount of Shifts, resisted by Discipline/Conviction (Not sure which one is more apropiate).

Since 2 refresh is a lot of refresh you might even want to add:
Your Defense is negatively modified by your Empathy.

This system would restrict your combat skills less (In Changes Molly didn't seem very impaired by the mayhem around her when she did her One-Lady-Rave) but would lead to neat Consequences (

DFRPG / Re: How to be a True Shapeshifter?

@ARedthorn
The issue that the character might be to adaptable is something that also came to my mind, but i think i can offset this with a rather cowardish nature when it comes to combat.
On the other hand the same character might be a good lever in combat situations when i messed up with matching the opposition to the group.
But i'll definitly keep an eye on that issue, thanks for the warning.

I totally forgot about the Naagloshi and naagloshi difference, and i like your story idea about the naagloshi. Also i consider it awesome how perfectly clear the player was about what he wanted, i wish mine were like that.

The problem with more knowledge and less power (read more fatepoints) is that the Wizard will probably be there for information-dumping and that most low powered concepts (especially WCVirgin) are better suited for social characters which i want to avoid. Also i am undecided about the advantages about a low or high refresh character. With high refresh i could bring far more examples for usage of fate points through the character but also i would have to constantly think about how to use those fate points to provide good examples, while also avoiding to give the character to much spotlight.

@The Mighty Buzzard
Submerged came from my approach to character generation. Since most of them had hard time about finding a template they wanted to play i didn't bother them with refresh limits till they said me what they wanted and put the powerlevel at a level where all ideas would fit into. With Wizard and Tiger-Shapeshifter thats settled at Submerged.
I was more looking for idea what "race" could be a True Shapeshifter, like Shaman (Which is no race, but the term template wouldn't fit either).

I know about the GM with a PC issues but i is kinda common in our groups, because in most systems we have frequently changing GMs, so we keep a character in the group for each possible player. Also we often spend a lot of time just roleplaying character interaction so i will feel little less "masturbatory".

I wouldn't like to see it in the hands of an inexperienced player either unless this person had spend some time looking at each possible power and knowing them. Gladly i already did that and the first thing i did was printing lots of reference material so i can look up stuff on the fly.

The inanimate objects thing is something i also don't truly know what to think about. The idea is kinda funny, but i can't think of a lot of sources for this power that would justify that ability. (Magically-Enhanced-Nanite-Cyborg!  ??? )

DFRPG / How to be a True Shapeshifter?
« on: September 13, 2011, 10:12:36 AM »
Forumites i need your help.
I am introducing my group into DFRPG and i'll use a storyteller-playercharacter to tag along with the group so i can teach them the game from player perspective.
We will be playing at Submerged level.

My idea is for something support-ish, without a huge amount of social skills since that would end with me talking with myself.
I also have a good idea of *who* i want to play but not *what*.
What i got:

Template: ?
Aspects: Nickname "Squirrel", Acrobat/Gymnast (Maybe worked at a Circus)
Powers: True Shapeshifter, Modular Abilities (4 Points to shuffle around), Human Form
She's supposed to have a very lively nature and might sometimes seem childish or alienating to others.

Now what i came up with before was a Half-Naglooshii, who was trained by Listens-to-Wind to prevent her from joining her ancestors corrupted path. Sure it could justify her happy nature in a bi-polar way, but it feels kinda "meh..." to me.

Now what ideas do you have for a truly true shifter (including objects) and what possible backgrounds could you think of for Squirrel?
Did you play a True Shapeshifter before?
Also how far would you go with possible options for your True Shapeshifter. Would you allow a waterbed? Motorbike? Car? (If you could pay for inhuman/supernatural speed, hulking size and inhuman/supernatural strength) Dinosaurs? Mechanical Features? Electronic Features? Mystic Strength/Speed/Toughness?
Or any cool ideas or warnings about this power in general.
(though i don't fear that it'll ruin my game since the character will just play a support role anyway)

While about this post i got another idea for a True Shifter: Scion of Loki.
In the storys Loki could do various shapeshifting tricks. afaik he even mothered the children of Odins horse.
I think this heritage would make a good background for a stealthy Shapeshifter and one wouldn't even need Powers like Marked By Power, since Loki was all about subtlety and cunning and not raw Power.
What do you think?

tl;dr:
Your thoughts about True Shapeshifters.

My request is me looking for different (better) ideas to implement what i want for my character ^^
I just came up with a Half-Naglooshii, trying to live a good life despite her very dark nature, which is kinda "meh..." imho.

DFRPG / Re: Situational Modifiers and Fate Points

There's no table as in some games but situational modifiers are allowed.  They're simply left up to the GM.  See pages YS310-YS312.
That's what i have been looking for :)

I managed to finish the rules part of the book yesterday but didn't get to the storyteller part yet.
With years of the same or similar systems i forgot how much work new systems are.

Blocks created that way need you to use your action each round to maintain them?

DFRPG / Situational Modifiers and Fate Points
« on: August 12, 2011, 10:55:15 AM »
Okay i am coming from the usual suspects of others rpgs (Shadowrun, World of Darkness, Das Schwarze Auge, D&D)
Now i am trying to wrap my mind around the rules and ideas of the Fate System and the DFRPG and want to start with City and Character Creation this weekend.

But something still bothers me:
What happens when the PC run out of Fate Points? Can't they get any advantages anymore through any "situational modifiers"?
Lets say there is a PC with no Fate Points in a gunfight. He pushes over some furniture to act as cover for him. He gets the temporary aspect "Behind Cover".
Sooo...The next time someone shots him he can tag that for a +2 on his dodge.
But what happens after? He's still behind cover but won't get anything for it?
Should i justify that by saying the NPCs run around the cover?

I can see this come up alot, like in a sneaky scenario where there are definitely Aspects that help with sneaking, like "Really Dark Place", and the PC wouldn't get anything out of it because he's out of Fate?

Am i missing something? Am i worrying to much and stuff will just work somehow?
