DF Spoilers / Re: Dear Jim
« on: May 28, 2018, 02:12:57 PM »
Huh? Community dead?

I dunno. I keep having lots of great discussions. It's mostly on facebook, and other forums though, rather than here.

This is the first time I checked this forum in months. But I've been discussing a lot of crazy theories on facebook recently.

The community isn't dead, it has just moved.

Glad to hear it! Effort will be appreciated! :D

Just as was asked regarding the last con Jim (and you! Yay!) went to; Will these be filmed?  :)

That's frustrating. They specifically told me I wasn't allowed to film (only audio record) the Magnificent Men panel because it was being filmed for DragonCon TV.

Despite that, it was a fun listen. :)
Just had to imagine it was a podcast.

Will the Jim Butcher hour be coming up soon as well? :)

Sad to hear about the Blackthorne cancel, otherwise fantastic news. :)
A big downside of not living in America is that it's a bit out of the way for Jim's normal tours. :D
(Though as a fan, I really hope he can be persuaded to visit Sweden again ;) )

Anyhow, the videos will be uploaded as soon as you are home from three con and have stable internet accesses again, I assume? :)

I'm going to make every effort to record them all.

If you manage to do it, you are a saint. :)
Could you update us on it whether you manage to do it or not?
It is kinda heartbreaking to sit and wait for videos and only slowly realize they aren't coming. :)

The idea of using something as a horse that's, mythologically speaking, a close cousin to Jenny Greenteeth was just ... disturbing...

I'm just disappointed she didn't bribe it with hard liquor. That's the traditional way to make a deal with them.
Can give you the ability to become a supernaturally good fiddler.

Hmm. By the turn of the Century, McCoy doesn't seem to be a Warden any more, according to the letters he and Pietrovitch wrote to each other.
In 1889 McCoy says that Pietrovich isn't under investigation, and in 1902 he says that he isn't speaking in official capacity. But that might be Blackstaff McCoy speaking, and not Warden McCoy.
But there are absolutely no mentions of him being Captain McCoy, which I feel would be relevant.

So it seems to me McCoy laid down the cloak and picked up the staff as part of the same general event.

Cinder Spires Spoilers / Re: Cinder Spires Airship Specs So Far
« on: October 04, 2015, 05:25:09 PM »
Also, Predator is mentioned as being Destroyer-sized, but in the very opening narrations it's described as explicitly not being a military ship. It lacks the armour of a military craft, for one thing.
To be fair that may partly be an organizational distinction as much as a practical one.  Preddy is heavily armed and certainly a combat vessel, but still a civilian vessel rather than a military one (ie part of Fleet).  And the merchant ships of the pirate days were often at least as well armed as the military ships.

I agree that merchantmen used to carry heavy armaments back during the golden age of piracy. But my point here is that all military vessels we see in the book are armoured. Predator isn't. The closest classification I can find for her is a Q-ship: A warship disguised as a merchantman, but carrying military-grade weaponry.

Correct me if I'm wrong here...
But wasn't Dreadnaught mentioned as the name of Albion's largest Battleship, rather than as a class of it's own?

Cinder Spires Spoilers / Re: [Spoiler]Favorite quote thus far...

I might be getting this down a bit wrong, as I listened to it on audiobook rather than read it but...

"You are no hunter. You are no warrior. You are an idiot."

... Huh? Lasciel is identified as female and we spend five books watching her try to get Harry to partner with her.

I suspect Harry, if he took up the coin, would've looked quite similar to Thomas if he did...

I dont think it has to be "Blood Hell" so much as "Bloody [Blank]" but they have to be able to recognize the difference between the swear word and the literal usage.  Otherwise their doctors officially have the worst bedside manner on the planet "Get that Bloody patient a tourniquet!"

Mind you, I could see an English doctor saying that.

DFRPG / Re: Defensive Voodoo doll?
« on: April 21, 2014, 07:13:38 PM »
One thing about burying the voodoo doll... I'd probably allow a savvy wizard-type who figured it out to use this to reverse the protection and apply a "Smothered / No Air" aspect to the character...

Also, as a general case:  what would happen to the protection if someone found the doll and put it inside a ward-circle?  My gut says the protection is suspended 'til the circle is broken.

Yeah. That was the intention. The main drawback of this is circles and thresholds and whatnot.

Hmm. Yeah. I suppose it could work, but I think it'd be far more likely to reverse the cause-effect bond here, so even a small injury in the Wizard will cause damage to the statue.

Heh. Yeah. I wonder what's up with those statues in the Dresden Files. I give it about even odds that there is nothing, and that there is something from the spooky side with them.
