DFRPG / Re: The Dresden Files RPG -- Information Thread
« on: May 01, 2007, 12:01:45 AM »
I'm not so good at RPGs. Most of the gaming I've ever done was via CCG or simple board games like Zombies! So for the RPG challenged, how easy is it?

And what's the timeline before this game is ready for market? I go to Dragon*Con every year. That would be a good place to test it or promote it. There is a lot of open/free gaming areas. I hosted a Zombies tournament last year.

Thank you mezzosoprano. But I assure you, there is no ill will from me and never has been and I wasn't offended. I really just took what happened as one of those things that happens sometimes. And anytime I come to a forum like this, I know I'm running the risk of a spoiler slipping through on someone's post. I hope you hang around. I'm no skilled writer, but I do like to amuse myself with writing a fan fic every now and then. (non-Marysue).   ;) I also like to attend writer's panels at various conventions too.

I appreciate the consideration Priscillie, but I'm fine. As I said, things like spoilers are bound to happen. For everyone who's read the books years ago, I know it must be hard to remember that some of us are quite new.

And mezzosoprano, I hope you find the discussion you're looking for. There does seem to be quite a few writers on this board and I'm sure once you all connect, you'll be able to share a lot of insight on things like plot and character development.

This just seems to be one of those "live and learn" type situations. I'm still alive, so I guess I learned something.  ;)

Sorry to stick my nose in but... I take "Anything Goes" for McAnallys as referring to anything else not covered in the currently existing forums. I take it as the catch-all place for current events, getting to know other members and goofing off.

Also, with a title like "Charity" for your thread, I had no idea you were discussing the book. I thought you wanted to discuss the various charities some of us may work with or share a story of your own. I didn't expect a discussion of the books. And since I haven't read all the books yet, I wasn't thrilled finding a spoiler for one there. That's one reason I haven't posted in a lot of the other forums yet, I don't want to wander across spoilers and such. I know you didn't intend it that way. It was just one of those things that happens sometimes.

Author Craft / Re: Need help.

I'm afraid I don't really have much to offer in the way of help, other than to tell you to keep writing. After all, none of this is set in stone. You can always go back to edit and rework a scene until you feel comfortable with it later. My own writing is limited to fan fic. And when I get on a roll, if I stop to wait out a difficult section, I tend to lose my energy and just muddle to a stand still.

Author Craft / Re: Writing Cons
« on: April 19, 2007, 02:43:24 AM »
When looking for a con, you have to consider what genre you'll be writing or wish to write. If it's fantasy/sci-fi then I'd use this website.

Smaller cons can be good because it does give an opportunity for more one on one contact. But larger cons may cater to more writers or have more discussion panels for new writers. Aside from meeting publishers, cons may also give you the opportunity to network with other writers.

A friend of mine who is working on her own comic book often gives out a printed sample issue to various publishers and people in related fields. It's really helped her open doors because it showcases all her talents. But it is a financial investment. And only now is it starting to pay off.

Each year, I go to Dragon*Con in Atlanta, GA. Huge con. Tons of writers. Right now, there are 41 on the guest list. By September, it will rise to about 400 (media, music, writers, artists etc...). But it can be an expensive convention to attend.

Calendar Event Discussion / Re: Are we missing an event?
« on: April 16, 2007, 04:51:25 PM »
Ditto on Dragon*Con. I'm new to the book series and didn't get the opportunity to attend any related panels in 2006.

I'm also looking to see if anyone here is interested or willing to run a fan table in the Marriott mezzanine. I'd do it, but I'm already committed to another fan group. Fan tables are free, BTW. But if someone were interested, I'm more than willing to offer my experience, skills and resources to the endeavor. I've been organizing and running them for various groups for the past 4 years.
