Cinder Spires Books / Re: So just what the heck is a Habble?
« on: October 02, 2015, 08:37:40 PM »
Okay, I've read my ARC and enjoyed it.  My ONLY question throughout the whole thing is wtf is a habble?

I have not finished ARC, but I've come to believe that "Spires" are vertical constructs with "arches" as we know them.  "Habbles" are horizontal parts of the Spire/Arch.  Perhaps Habble Morning faces toward the sun as it rises.

I'm in the minority here, but the whole thing reminded me of Trek's solution to a writer writing him/herself into a corner -- aliens playing mind games.  In this case, bad angel playing mind games.  Didn't work for me.

Perhaps they are mutated ghouls.

I live in downtown Chicago and I don't drive and it's easier for me to get to London than to Oakbrook.

Chicago?  Terrific.  Please let the location be accessible by public transportation -- please, pretty please!

I frankly admit I would be a terrible beta-reader of Jim's work -- too much of a cheer-leader and not enough fact checker, plot hole detective, or "jump-the-shark" scenario, and too much of a fan.  Except for the grammar part -- but that's what an editor's for.

Add another one to group, if possible.  Have a degree in journalism, but never worked at it.  Did a fair amount of unsuccessful creative writing over the years, but nothing recently.

Unfortunately, I live in the city and Oak Brook is the "edge of the earth" to non-drivers.  Hope you all have a great time, however.

Come to Chicago, Jim!  Visit Wrigley Field.  Note that it does not have acres and acres of parking!  I'm afraid that if you don't come, Harry will move away and we'll be left to battle the creatures of the NeverNever on our own.  How scarey is that?

Author Craft / Re: Why Do You Write?
« on: July 02, 2007, 05:30:56 PM »
I write to shut up the voices in my head even if no one ever reads what I produce.  I write because when I told my mother I wanted to be a writer when I grew up, she told me I'd never be a writer and that I'd have "to work for a living."  I've spent years trying to shut up her voice in my head.

Wish he were coming to Shore Leave in July.  And, a second voice for Chicago if only to learn that the University of Chicago is not in Lincoln Park.
