DFRPG / Re: The Accords and the Black Court

No, I don't think there are any accord police. At least, there is no evidence of it in the books. On the other hand, the Archive does state that if anyone breaks the rules during the dual between Harry and Ortega, that it would be her duty to destroy them.

I think the accords are a very broad set of rules. They cover things like dueling, grievances, neutral grounds, and since they where written up by Mab and her brethren, probably offer some subtle advantage to the winter court that will one day bite everyone in the rear.

That being said, while the rules are probably loose and poorly enforced to a degree ( a lot of 'I was looking over there, so I didn't see that thing you just did that broke the rules), they are still rules. They can be used at any time as justification.

The challenge here would be bringing forth evidence of the accord being broken to interested parties. IE: However would benefit the most from seeing the blampires taken down another peg. And then convincing that other party to act.

Except for the fact that the original cause of their collapse remains an ongoing condition of modern life: too many people are aware of their weaknesses.
True, but many people know of the weakness's of the fae, like cold iron.

Woj states that the other powers had grown worried about how powerful the blampires were becoming. I would imagine that now that they have been knocked down nobody plans on letting them stand back up again.

All the more reason to keep them under the guidance of accords as opposed to being free agents.

Really, I think it comes down to story telling. Would it be better for your story to have a vampire that is so nasty that he ignore the Accords at will? Or is it better to have the ramifications of having the PC's try to bring the blampire up on Accord violations?

DFRPG / Human form vs Human Guise
« on: October 25, 2011, 06:46:45 PM »
OK folks, here's a question that has come up in a game I'm in.

According to YS176, Human Guise can be detected by 'supernatural senses', while there is no mention of Human Form being detectable.

So if my character has Human Form, can she be detected as supernatural through the use of 'supernatural senses' (short of The Sight or a Soul Gaze).

If so, would such a detection attempt happen every time my character meets a supernatural or wizard, no matter how many times they meet?

My own opinion is that Human Form is undetectable unless the investigator has reason to disbelieve it. And if they do try a roll, they only get one unless something else happens to make them suspect the character isn't human again.

The other character (a wizard) is of the opinion that she would get a check every time the characters meet, as senses (supernatural or not) are always active.

I can certainly see the validity of her position, so I'll turn it over to the rule experts here while I wait for my own GM to hand down a decision. (It's an online game.)

Thank you! Were you the person that played Jaimie? Or were you the one that played Dani?

I was playing Jaimie. :)

I have to add my two bits. As one of the players of team Alpha, I have to say it was a blast. The tables was boisterous and we played off of each other very well. Due to time constraints, it felt a little rushed at the end, though this isn't a criticism against the GM or the game, but just a comment from someone who would have been quite happy playing longer.

The GM was great, had handouts ready for the players, from maps and characters (in color) to torn up pages we found in various locations in the house, and lots of spare dice and pencils. He was patient with us, explaining what we needed to know, no matter how many times the questions where asked.

Characters where piked at semi-random, with nothing more then the character art to go by to tell us about the characters. The players at the table where fun, and everyone was spread out when the real haunting began, with some players being upstairs, some on the main floor and more in the basement. There wasn't really much in the way of teamwork, especially with Chris being a little troublemaker. Everyone was headstrong and wanted to do their own thing. Just like real teenagers!

As someone who has read huge chunks of the rulebook and even ventured so far as to create a character for an online game that never panned out, it was great to see the game actually played. The often confusing written text became easy to use in actual game play. And while I know we where running on a more 'rules light' version of the game, it was still great fun and really made me realize the importance of Fate Points and compels and why making a character with lots of cool stuff but 1 refresh might not always be the best idea.

DFRPG / Re: A Non-Evil Denarian?
« on: April 11, 2011, 10:44:29 PM »
I think that the Denarians are evil, at least from our mortal point of view. They see what they are doing as being completely justified, and they have a cause. This is a dangerous combination, since they will do anything to further their goals.

However, more then thirty angels rebelled against the white god. I think if you really wanted to play a fallen angel, you could just as easily play a lower echelon angel who has his own anchor in the mortal world. You can really get those creative juices flowing and come up with something entirely new. Maybe there was originally more then 30 fallen, but only 30 of them bound themselves to the denari. The rest didn't for their own reasons. Perhaps, tired of being trapped on the mortal plane, some lower ranked fallen have gathered together to subtly oppose the denarians, hoping to win favor with the heavenly host and be allowed to return...
