DFRPG / Re: Maneuver & effect - how to deal?

Thank you for your comments. My players are easy to talk to so we probably sort this out together and use some of your ideas above to deal with it in my next game. We are quite new to FATE (2 full game sessions + character/city creation) to any insight into rules are appreciated.

DFRPG / Maneuver & effect - how to deal?
« on: February 15, 2011, 06:33:59 PM »
I just realize my friends have found pretty easy way to deal with NPCs. They maneuver something and than invoke for effect for free to make them unconscious. If we assume that maneuver roll will be successful that's instant and free solution. How should i handle it? It's pretty valid way to take out opponents but can be easily abused and became boring very quickly.

I picked "Other". Just can't be bothered really. As much I would love to I'm to lazy to prepare proper playlist. But I'm looking forward to learn some tips and tricks from you guys in that matter.

Thank you for quick response. Everything is clear now. There's just one more question. If player (or NPC) pays Fate Point to compel or invoke for effect just created Aspect can he (or anybody else really) get free +2/reroll afterwards or this tag is used already and no more free invokes?

So using tag as "invoke for effect" is fine? I got confused because this post in sample combat:
http://www.jimbutcheronline.com/bb/index.php?PHPSESSID=33fa02bd7ad58c81b8184ce56e421d62&topic=20530.msg900893#msg900893

It's says:
A consequence enables one tag, which is a free invoke.  An invoke is either +2 to a roll or a reroll.  In order to compel the consequence, the player (Barry, in this case) would need to spend a fate point, which Voldy would get...and could also have begun an escalation on the compel, making it far more costly to the compelling player.

So it assumes tag is +2/reroll only, but NOT effect/compel.

DFRPG / Tagging for effect

I know you're probably tired answering those basic questions but searching forum didn't bring me any answers. What can I do wit Tag?
I know it works like invoke (+2/reroll). That's simple.
Can I use it as free invoke for effect? Rulebook is somehow unclear about it. Or maybe I still need to pay Fate Point for using it for effect? In any case can affected character pay Fate Point to resist if I'm using tag placed on him since it's basically a compel.
Can I tag for effect Aspects created by consequences?

DFRPG / Help with enchanted item

Hi, I'm new to the boards and game. I've just bought core rulebook last week and currently we're planning our first campaign. Can you please help me with designing this particular enchanted item?

One of my friends is playing Warden. He'd like to have sword that looks like a walkingstick pretty much all the time. He even has Aspect "Old athlete with old injury" and his character limps. At first I tought idea sounds good, but now I'm not so sure.

I would make it as item based on veil cause it's illusion, but what about how many times per session it could be used? He wants this effect to be permanent. Is it possible? Or maybe it's way over powered or not in line with dresdenverse? How would you handle it?
