Please forgive the vulgarity...

I had an adventure with super agent types investigating an assassination plot at an opera house (it was based on a movie - title escapes me right now). By the time we were ready to go I was really tired from a double shift at work, but I thought it would be okay. I slammed a few sodas and we started. Well, I was definitely punch drunk and getting loopy, when they asked the name of the opera. Somehow I had forgot to name it when I wrote up my notes. Thinking quick, with my tired and caffeine laden brain, feeling loopy, I said "It's the famous Italian tragedy 'Fellatio on a Cat'", thinking this would just get a quick laugh and we could move on. Well, no. It got a *huge* laugh, and whenever we tried to proceed one of the players would crack up, which triggered another and so on. They started to work the title into all of their character's dialog setting each other into more fits of laughter. I finally just apologized for killing the story and went to bed.

I keep *very* detailed notes now.

Another great podcast. Can't wait for the RPG and the next book! Great interview from a non-book fan. I still don't like the show, but, what are ya gonna do?

Wow, I haven't been thrilled with the first two episodes - didn't hate them or the changes necessarily - just thought they were week. BUT, when you said that bit about Babylon 5 that stopped me in my tracks. The first season of Babylon 5 is pretty weak - there is some good stuff for sure, and it lays down important ground work for the future seasons - but yeah, it's weak. I tend to forget that when I think about Babylon 5 - so, excellent point!

Oh, trust me, I have a lot of fondness for season 1 all the same ... but yeah, it did not open as strong as I would have wanted. :)

And honestly I suspect we won't have to wait for all that many more episodes before we see something awesome, with the Dresden TV show...  but we'll have to see.  My hopes for Hair of the Dog are up, at least.

It's funny actually, I had a friend telling me that I needed to watch Babylon 5 and that it was a "fantastic" show. So I tuned in and it was a first season episode called...<pause for a quick internet search>...Infection. That's the one with an archaeologist that smuggles ancient artifacts onto the station, unleashing a living weapon. I seriously hated this episode. I thought my friend was crazy. The next time I saw it was in the second season because of Bruce Boxleitner - it was the techno-mage episode and that hooked me. I did go back and watch the first season later and appreciated it more. It became one of my all time favorite shows.
But Dresden - I did think the second episode was an approvement over the first. If each episode keeps getting better then this will shape up to be a fantastic show.

Here's hoping!

But I'd watch the show regardless. I'm just a big Harry geek through and through.

You might be surprised about Harry Potter.  It was actually popular before any hype started.  It became popular because people that read it told their friends about it.

I got into it at book 4 in spite of the hype.

Yeah, I have to agree. Both wizard's named Harry are really great. While Dresden is definitely more 'adult', the Potter series is also a great story that keeps building and getter stronger with each book. While you're waiting for the next Dresden book I recommend you try the other Harry. I mean, over hyped it may be, but that hype started for a reason.

That just makes me sad.  It's not like Potter is the first wizard to use spellwords.  It's times like these that make me almost wish you guys *had* changed Harry's name to Erik for the TV show, so people would be less inclined to make comparisons between the two series.  I'm amazed that the Potter books are having such a (in this fan's view) detrimental effect on the Dresden TV series.  Yay spells and flying staffs and fire blasts, but... man.  I'm going to miss that aspect of the books.

I completely agree. Harry Potter (a series I love) hardly invented the magic word. I think any comparisons made between the two would end after watching The Dresden Files and seeing how completely different they are. It's kind of insulting to the audience to think that it wouldn't.

We always wanted the TV show to feel more like "The Rockford Files" or "Spencer for Hire," traditional episodic detective shows with some long term story telling, but strong individual epsiodes that can stand on their own.
Those are two good shows to feel like.

Actually I have a question for Robert. First off, thanks for the open dialog with the fans. Seriously cool of you. I'll admit to being one of the not as happy as they wanted to be types - but absolutely staying tuned to see how the show develops.
My question is this, I was just curious why the decision was made to make the show stand alone stories rather than arc based stories? I ask this only because it seems that the landscape of tv has changed a lot and the more arc based storytelling has gained considerable popularity. Shows like Lost, Grey's Anatomy, 24, and Battlestar Galactica are all arc based shows and all very successfull. I was curious why it was decided to take a property that has that already built in and then remove that aspect in favor of stand alone episodes?

Just curious. Thanks for your time.

Hello,

What's the latest world on a release for this? Soon-ish? Not so soon-ish? Looking forward to it either way.

Thanks,
