I have actually never been to a signing in my life, so this will be my first one. So, can anyone be so kind as to explain to me how it goes? Do you bring your own books to get signed, or will he only sign them if you bought them at the bookstore that day? And usually, how many does he sign? Thanks!

As A rule Jim will defer to the rules of the con. That said his rule of thumb is to sign 3 books per trip through line. so if you have 6 books get 3 signed then get back in line to get the next 3 signed. Myyrdn (Garrett) is a good guide for this, he's been to quite a few of these and is a great guy to boot.

Anyone going to this one who gets to meet the Jim-wrangling Pam would be well advised to hug her to within an inch of her life. She's beyond awesomesauce.

^^ THAT! ^^

One of the best people I know! Just tell her Shecky and I sent you or you might (read WILL) get slugged!  ;D

Based on my personal experience with Ghost Story Readings a full YEAR in advance of release, yeah wait until you get the okay from JB's Camp. Have to clear it with his publisher ect. Priscilla is the goto on this I *think* but with her workload of late that may have changed. She's still a great person to poke though. I hope you enjoyed it as much as my beta friends have, I know I can't wait to read it myself!  ;D

I would love it if Jim came back to NYC for either comic-con or Book expo America
I can think of quite a few of us that would like to see him out east again.  :D

Most of us are willing to share the burden. :P
:waves a hand in front of Shecky's face: We're your friends. You want to share all the chapters with us. You WILL give them to us. :waves a hand in front of Shecky's face:

^^ this is SOOO cute. I've been at his house, used the computer he reads them on and I've never seen chapter one of any of Jim's work before release. The man respects the confidence entrusted to him.

Ulfgeir - about this book, one of the reviewers on Amazon mentions something awful.
(click to show/hide)
Is that really true or is it one of those "I'll make up stuff so people won't buy this book" things? I can handle anything, but that is one concept I can't handle.  :(
I've read that book and have no recollection of that AT ALL. If it happens it's NOT on screen and not one of the 2 leads. One has had some bad things happen to them, but I don't recall it being precisely THAT. I may have a faulty recollection, but something like that tends to stick out to me.

I can't express the level of stoked I am for this after hearing Priscilla and Shecky chat about how much they loved it well over a year ago. Then after seeing Jim over the holidays and listening to HIM talk about it, going to be epic!

I think most of us who have had the fortune to spend time with Shannon and Jim would say that's a consistent feeling. They are just the sweetest, warmest people.
Jim and Shannon were part of Rachel(Starbeam) and my wedding(they signed a copy of CHANGES used in the ceremony), not only THAT they sent us a card for our first anniversary. Who else do you know of that will do that for fans, granted fans who have had the chance to hang out with them several times. A few of the times we saw Jim it was an "off" day for him and you would have NEVER been able to tell. Just a great couple, very talented and so down to earth and approachable. I can't say enough.

I thoroughly enjoyed the two signings I attented for the Dresden Files. Jim was generous with the book signings, as someone mentioned before, and was just a friendly and interesting person to speak with. I would love the chance to be able to just sit down with the man and talk casually and pick his brain (and not necessarily about the Dresden Files).

I've had the pleasure and it's worth every second. We talked about everything BUT his work, geeking out about books he loves and him telling me,STERNLY, that I had to watch Stargate SG-1. You will hear me and Shecky say Jim (and His wife Shannon) is more then a great author, hes just good "folks". Having been able to just "hang" with him had a very positive effect on me, personally, in a time when I really needed a bright light. I'm also very honored to have been able to tell him so as well.  :D

Keep in mind that Jim LIKES doing cons; remember, he's a fan as well. It's just that going to so many of them together wear on him, as it would on anyone. But he's also savvy in regards to PR—authors benefit greatly from having a physical public presence, especially one as amiable, entertaining and interesting as his. It's what really hooked me into his books; I saw him at a con in '07, and between him and Shannon, I moved from simply liking his books a lot to thinking they're extremely good people who deserve our support. It's always a good thing when you can help reinforce people doing right.

It's a balance, in the end: between his own fan-ness and keeping a public image, there's got to be a happy medium.

^^^^^
THAT

I first met Jim in 2010 at NYCC ( Along with Shecky,Priscilla, and well MOST of the Mods) and it's hard to explain just meeting Jim the man, not the "product" had a VERY positive impact on me as a man. I met Shannon January 2011 at a con with Jim and seeing the two of them together you have a model of what a marriage SHOULD be.

Like Shecky said Jim LIKES cons as a fan Himself, but as a Professional they are draining EVERYONE wants to stop him on the show floor to sign something chat ect, and he never says no, bu he really just wants an hour to browse for himself. I have actually been part of a group "shielding" Jim so he could have a little time to browse and geek out and it was always "Let Jim have an hour and he'll be happy to chat and sign stuff after over at X place" Jim is THAT guy. They kicked him out of DragonCon for being a FIRE HAZARD so he took the line outside and signed there!

I can't say this enough I LIKE his work, but I LOVE him as a person, I love Shannon more, but then again so does he  ;)

Overall, the community's pretty much the most positive one I've encountered, anywhere.  The out and out trolls have been blessedly few and far between.  It's just been the last couple years where we've had an occasional issue where someone who sincerely loves the books was getting upset because they felt Jim was wronging them by not writing about some personal cause of theirs, or by depicting something they don't like "too positively."

Overall, I'd say this is the most friendly and tolerant fan base I've seen, and I think a great deal of that is due to Jim's decision to keep his works apolitical.

I would add that a lot of it has to do with the fact that Jim is so accessible. He stays away from the net 90% of the time, true, but at an event he will gladly answer questions about why he did "X". Add also the fact he is just a really good guy, I have been blessed(yes BLESSED) to spend time with both he and Shannon in a laid back atmosphere and what you see IS what you get.
