DFRPG / Tactic: Werewolf cannon
« on: October 10, 2011, 08:02:45 AM »
when we successfully pulled this tactic off, me and my entire gaming group laughed so hard that i had to share the laughter online

setup
one big bad ogre
one werewolf with inhuman speed, claws, inhuman strength
one wizard with the following:
          +2 item of power
it is what it is: its a paper-patchwork coat of pockets
             -2 hyperspace arsenal
-1 secure hyperspace (very important later)
prepwork:
my litte brother has his werewolf jump (maneuver) at my coat at +6 (4 skill, +2 inh speed) athletics I (the wizard) use an 8 shift evocation spell "launch" (maneuver) as he leaps into my coat of holding (affecionate nickname)
since by rules time doesnt pass in hyperspace momemtum is stored when secure hyperspace is taken
cue scene:
Ogre-boss and his flunkies are facing off against our, at this point very ragtag group. when my turn in the conflict comes about i use a supplemental action to release my little brother's werewolf while also using "lauch" again while he is still in midair.
total shift modifer to fists: +22
total result: +29 attack vs 3 athletics dodge
gm ruling: ogre taken out via having head bit off
My question for you dear readers:
what do think our intimidation bonus should be when I tell the flunkies left over that I have 19 weregators locked and loaded?

DFRPG / how to work out a logias powers?
« on: August 01, 2011, 04:08:04 AM »
for those who dont know what one piece's logia powers are:
they imbue with the essence of the type of devil fruit (I.E light, fire, magma, lightning, and ice)
Taking the ice example  if a person with it gets slugged in the face with a baseball bat he can choose to react as if he was made of snow, slush or ice, causing him to break apart and reform almost instantly. (-8 physical immunity is what i thought would work best here)
Second example, a fire-type logia can shoot fire from her hands
and otherwise wield it as -2 channeling (with the possabilty of getting refinement because she isnt likely to branch out but getting better at what she does is an option I think)
Third example lightning's "weakness" in the series is that they cant use their immunity on things their element cant affect. For example, a lightning-type wielder getting shot at with rubber bullets would effect them as a normal vanilla person would be. (-? I am not sure what that refresh refund would be)
In addition, that dissolve thing can affect actions, say if you shoot a ice type in the hand while he is carrying a briefcase or a weapon he takes the hit normally or drops the item.
As a conclusion, any other powers and description advice from that knows the series would be appriciated

A military-style Camelbak (google it) filled with coffee at all times would be an interesting character quirk
Awesome idea!  ;D

Sounds to me as though you might be better off making it an Aspect.  Say ... "I needs me my coffee fix!
cool changing my list of aspects now :D

If you look at the examples given for feeding dependency, all of them involve, in effect, stealing life from other sentients -- whether in the form of blood, emotion, soul, or flesh.  This isn't meant to be an addiction to an odd food type, it's meant to be more than a little monstrous.
Ok I think I will remove feeding dependacy from the stat list and just Role-play the effect in.  ;D
(for example: three hours without coffee, my character will develop "twitchy" fingers and otherwise spasm. 8 hours without coffee, while he is pinning 3 ghouls to the fact to the floor using gravity hes looking desperately for a coffee machine in the beaten up house they denned up in)

and also I think I will go with an earlier poster and say further upgrades are a result of years of careful experimentation. (with corresponding increased levels of coffee consumption to the point he carries a percolator whereever he goes)

Could you elaborate a bit more please? Pardon me if I was mistaken (I'm new to the fate system in general) but I thought it maintained balance because I still had to pay the refresh cost.

Still I was mainly trying for a variation of the clich'e I Need More Power! not the X-men
I.E instead of selling my humanity for power, I transform myself thereby sacrificing my humanity.

DFRPG / Using biomancy/mutation to obtain inhuman toughness/recovery

Character concept: Being a better wizard through mutation

The basic premise I was taking a base of a focused spellcasterwho started with:
            Channeling(earth) -2
            Ritual (biomancy) -2
when he was younger but trying to become a full wizard, he used a biomancy ritual to increase his natural ability. however being largely uninformed about what formed a wizards constiution(spelling?) he instead ended up with:
            Evocation -3
            Thaumaturgy -3
            Sight and Soulgaze -1
            Inhuman toughness -2
            inhuman recovery -2
feeding dependacy +1(I was thinking of using a particular type of food such as coffee/tea or banannas)
catch +3 known in the warden files(+1 difficult to obtain knowledge) and moderately radioactive metals (+2 easy access)
basicly if he doesnt maintain his hunger track he reverts to his base stats because he didn't maintain the ritual or in other words it failed to not having enough resources to maintain its power.
as a convinent bonus it provides a great story for buying more powers
Thoughts?
