DF Spoilers / Re: Who fixed Little Chicago?

I had always assumed that it was Uriel that did it, all things considered.

It's ... totally something that he'd do.

Considering that the power using an investigation roll, theoretically, that is *exactly* what happens. Or rather, how you gain the info is more flavor than mechanics.  Seeing glimpse of the past, walking around in it, etc.  Just flavor for that Investigation roll. :)

DFRPG / Re: True Faith of alternate faiths/philosophies?
« on: January 19, 2011, 08:44:04 AM »
are the faith powers internal or external?
Yes. To me it's a combination of both.  There must be an "external power source", such as the White God, or Magick itself. And there must be the strong conviction in that power to be able to influence the world.

Personally, I read it as "mooks" are more bestial and major NPCs are much more "civilized" and farther away from their bestial side.

Human Form definitely works better than Guise for what you're doing. I have a player that shifts into a gruff type fae in my own campaign and did some looking before allowing it.

Guise is for something that looks almost completely human. White Court being the obvious example, but Ghouls being the other.  Very close.  The big distinction is that, in Guise your powers are still available, but as soon as you call on them, your nature is revealed.  Human Form, you have to "shift" to gain access to them.
So the question is, always accessible or have to change forms to gain them?  If change forms, then Human Form, else Guise.

inhuman speed gives +1 to athletics to dodge, or +2 if moved (IIRC).  So if it's fast, its likely to have a 4-5 athletics anyhow.  That's 5 min, to 7.  Now suppose the baddie/target decides to invoke aspects? "It's dark here", and his high concept.  That's a 9 shift defense. Maybe 11.  I'm sorry, but I see this as balanced.  And that's also assuming that you have no stunts to boost it, and aren't taking a full defensive action (2 higher).

DFRPG / Re: How Would You Price This? Wizard Walkie-Talkie

Personally, I'd say screw the item approach.  It's a simple ritual. Just requires something significant to the "destination", or otherwise symbolic.  4-5 shift seems appropriate. Call it a mild divination. Or some such.

Well, I wouldn't necessarily say low balled, but yeah.  Sanctaphrax has a very nice list of "Generic NPCs" and has a couple very high refresh "Senior Council Wizards" stated up.  Some seriously scary mojo. And you could look at the Our World stats as the versions that those NPCs want portrayed to the world. Easier to deal with people when they underestimate you.

(and WillH, no offense but that's not exactly true.  Listed refresh of the senior council is very strong and people seem to underestimate that power.  Besides, it does say that "these *may* be underpowered depictions" or something to that effect)

Also, as "PCs", they suffer the "candle burning at both ends" effect.  Yes, their rise to power is great, and fast, but it's dangerous and very prone to be cut drastically short.  Quick rise generally means quick fall. For a variety of reasons.

DFRPG / Re: Levels of Canon?
« on: January 11, 2011, 06:17:16 AM »
IIRC, the first book mentions or WoJ mentions that it is an alternate timeline. Partitally written by a "earlier enlightened billy". So it's not entirely cannon (after turn coat it, IIRC).

« on: January 09, 2011, 07:19:29 PM »
The "Our World" book has a bit on that.  But basically, create the shell, and summon the spirit.  Basically the same as summoning zombies (which is in the "Your Story" book).  Problem is, that you basically have to bind a spirit, which is a borderline Law violation.  Probably why it's not talked about.

DFRPG / Re: Focused Practitioner vs Wizard
« on: January 05, 2011, 04:22:05 AM »
The book isn't exactly clear about it, but specifically, you can have focus items and enchanted as long as they are "in theme" with your high concept/ritual/channeling.  Like, if you're a pyromancer, a "force ring" doesn't make sense, but change it to fire and it's fine. Stuff like that.

DFRPG / Re: Vampires and Werewolves and . . . Aliens?!?
« on: January 02, 2011, 06:53:20 PM »
Just FYI, it's not fae disgusing as aliens.  If you look at a lot of the "newer" alien abduction/encounter/spotting stories, and you look at a lot of the old faerie stories, you *will* see a *lot* of similarities.  Faerie lights? UFOs.  Little green men? Nixies maybe.

Basically, the stories *evolved* because science and understanding of the world did.  You think we'd have *aliens* if we never took off into the air? Or space?  And how much of our mind fills in blanks?  A forced sexual encounter with a fae turns into "probing" because that's what extraterrestrials would do.

In a lot of "mythological research", the general conclusion is that aliens == fae and fae == aliens.

And as for the NN on other planets: Personally I'd say it's there.  Maybe not anywhere as strong. Where a 4 shift effect is needed here, maybe it's 20 there. (world walking part of thuam)  And as for Seelie and Unseelie courts. Maybe there is a greater balance there, or shared domain (no seasons, constant all around). Or each court owns permanent claim on certain sections, as they're constant temp all "year" round.

Or maybe there is an alien race. Using the NN as a sort of hyperSpace for FTL travel. :)

DFRPG / Re: White court feedings

The reason schools are a good place, is because they are a place to start.  Yes, they wouldn't necessarily be an all you can eat buffet, but they'd be close.  Teenagers are much more emotionally fragile, think that every minor thing is the "End Of Their World" and react accordingly. A handful of whampires would find great feeding there, and more importantly, be able to set patterns of behavior in many kids before they fully cement their behavior.  They'd be creating new generations of prey more susceptible to influence.

Malls are typically filled with those same kids, and generally filled with their share of mall-rats (who would be good meals).  And it depends on the mall.  The one close to me, is highly teen-centric.  And you should see the looks of disgust that a lot of the adults have.  A good feeding place for lust too.

Sports complex would definitely be a good place, which reminds me: Bars.  Why do a lot of people go to them?  Because they're desperate/lonely/insert negative emotion here. :)

Not to mention, any big office building would probably be a cesspool of despair and hopelessness. It's not called the "Daily Grind" for nothing. :)

The books mention jails at one point. But dood, that school janitor is totally going to get you. Lead by the Principal, naturally. :)
But malls would be a good place too. And Starbucks. :)
