I would think just the [+1] aquatic would be enough to balance it out.

DFRPG / were-form character build
« on: July 23, 2010, 06:57:18 PM »
So a friend and i were debating about the build for a were-form:

"In addition, the following supernatural powers must be taken:
Beast Change [–1] (page 174) Echoes of the Beast [–1] (page 163) Human Form [+1] (page 176) At least two refresh points’ worth of abilities from the options list below. The Beast Change ability allows the player to restructure his skills when in animal form. This second skill configuration should be worked out before play begins. See page 174 for details. Options: The character may take up to two of these abilities—Inhuman Recovery [–2] (page 185), Inhuman Speed [–2] (page 178), Inhuman Strength [–2] (page 183), or Inhuman Toughness [–2] (page 185)—so long as those abilities are in sync with the animal form he assumes. Similarly, abilities may be taken from the Creature Feature category (page 162) or the Minor Ability category (page 169) if they can be shown to be a part of the creature’s natural advantages."

So to me, i see that as you NEED to take: beast change, echoes of the beast, human form, and one of (Inhuman Recovery, Inhuman Speed, Inhuman Strength, or Inhuman Toughness). beyond that you may take more based on the refresh you have left.

He says you can use the minor talents or creature feature category to fullfill the "At least two refresh points’ worth of abilities from the options list below" requirement.

How have you all been doing it? or how would you do it?

@luminos i do understand that stress =/= damage, but it can..in one game i played i saw our magick user go down because he casted 3 spells (granted, one of them he powered up). my concern comes more as: 1 spell stress 1 = 1 stress 2 spells at stress 1 = 3 stress, etc.

great! that helps SO much, and it took a bit of stress off my mind since this is the introduction to this game for most of the players in the group and i didn't want to make it too impossible on them.

i noticed when playing at origins that spellcasting is quite damaging to a caster while in the dresdenverse casters can cast, to a degree, with out taking stress. has anyone thought of a way to make it a bit more even?

i was thinking about another power (homebrew) that lets you cast 2-3 (minimal damage) spells during an 'encounter' without taking stress hits. anyone have any suggestions or experience with this?

Well a good aspect for a character would be "there's never enough ammo" and i think that would be great for a compel here or there. not "you are now out of ammo" but maybe a "your gun is out and you need to spend this round reloading"

@ Blackdog, feet in the water combat depends massively on how your characters are focused.  What's the party look like?

we haven't done the character creation night yet, but we are looking at 5-6 players. and based solely on how we play other games: 1 will definitely be a focused practitioner, 1 will probably be along the lines of a cop, 1 minor talent, and 1 were-form.

So in keeping with this thread, i too, will scream "HELP!!"

I'm in the middle of building the world and getting some 'encounters' built, however i keep hitting a wall. i want my party to start at "feet in the water" so they can really build up. how hard should the enemies be at that level? how many should come in a fight? how can i tell from just looking at the character sheets?
