DFRPG / Jim Butcher and Fred Hicks interviewed on The Walking Eye
« on: November 10, 2010, 09:04:18 PM »
Hey everybody,

We just posted our interview with Jim Butcher and Fred Hicks.

http://www.thewalkingeye.com/?p=973

It was a lot of fun to talk to these two together. They swap some oldschool gaming stories, talk about the challenges of the DFRPG, and get in a few talking points. :)

Enjoy1

Kevin. Jen and I are the only ones with a real 'net presence. The rest of our hosts are Luddites. :)

Thanks! Glad it was a help, and I feel you on the monkey wrench problem. We had all kinds of problems getting these episodes recorded. Real Life can be a pain in the arse sometimes.

Hey everybody,

Just dropping in to let y'all know we've posted our review of the Dresden Files RPG up at The Walking Eye: http://www.thewalkingeye.com/?p=958

Shock of shocks, we liked it quite a bit. There's a bit of talk about aspects we like (such as Aspects) and a few minor quibbles about the character creation process and the probability spreads of FATE dice.

For those interested, we also have 5 sessions of Actual Play recorded, covering City Creation, character creation, and 3 sessions of narrative play: http://www.thewalkingeye.com/?cat=599 <-- This link will also lead you to an interview w/ Ryan Macklin and Lenny Balsera from earlier in the year. We're working on getting schedules aligned for an interview with Jim Butcher and Fred Hicks, we'll keep ya posted!

Our session 4 is up. Some combat, a couple evocations, and a pretty good showdown.

We've got our 3rd session, the one that covers regular narrative play, up and running now:

we cover quite a few of the basics: Some straight rolls, a couple social conflicts, a soulgaze, The Sight, some assessments, and a counterspell. Enjoy!

Chargen session was last night, and the sound file is a-ok. :)

Due to time constraints and a few people being unfamiliar w/ the setting/rules, we limit what we cover in the actual podcast. Which is to say we cover initial character brainstorming, then going through all 5 phases, and we pick templates and powers. We left out skills and tweaking the powers for the spellcasters.

I think the most important parts, namely how we brainstorm our characters and pick aspects are very well covered, though. I'm editing it up tonight, it'll prolly go up this Saturday.

That was good.  When is the character creation session getting posted?

<Are we there yet?>

We're recording character creation tonight! I'm thinking of making a security specialist wizard. Kinda like Harry meets Blackwater, only less evil. Or our Indiana Jones analog. He's tempting too...

Well, much like Harry, we're stubborn bastards. :)

We're trying again next week. We created Anchorage, AK, and it went over really well. Everyone's really excited to play, and City Creation was so much fun it won't be a big deal to try again. We're keeping at it!

Some good news: We talked to Jim, and he's down for being interviewed by us after we finish our AP run and Review. Scheduling permitting, of course, but we'll pretty much bend over backwards to his schedule to make sure it happens, so I don't see that being a problem. The interview should be Jim Butcher and Fred Hicks, it'll be a blast!

Just to let you know, we had a last-minute host switcheroo, and had to put things off a week. Things are on for Tuesday, honest! :)

Unfortunately not. Real Life reared it's head and we haven't had a session since then. But we're on schedule for recording our first session this Wednesday! I'll probably edit it this coming Saturday and put it up.

Hey guys,

The Walking Eye podcast (www.thewalkingeye.com) is going to run about 5 sessions of DFRPG starting next week. We're going to do city/character creation and then probably 3 sessions of play. After that, we'll review the game (I've already played it a bit and I'm pretty sure our review will be a positive one) and then interview some of the designers. We've got Fred Hicks on board (assuming we can make the scheduling work, it is Con Season, after all) and we'll probably interview a 2nd designer as well.

Our first session is next week, so look for it to be released roughly Saturday, the 10th!
