DFRPG / Re: Stumped for a concept

Okay, today i had an idea...based on the history of New Orleans. One of Jean Lafittes pirates, who was killed helping Andy Jackson defend the city against the British during the War of 1812. After the battle a voodoo woman came upon his body and cast a spell on him. She raised him from the dead with the proviso that he continue to defend the city. As long as he is in New Orleans he can't die.

Now he a New Orleens police detective who fights otherworldly threats to the well being of the city.
Now i just need to figure out the rest of it.

Thanks for all of the great ideas!

Papa Gruff, I like the idea of the were raccoon burglar.

Drahsna, the NPC list is a great help.

neko128, some of your ideas are really cool. I especially like the traveller and the shlub holder of the grail.
(And yes, I have read the Wild Cards books, just never thought of looking through them for inspiration.)

Once again, thanks for the help.
Tom

We are starting at chest deep, 8 refresh, 30 skill points.
IIRC, the other two characters are a were-raven type and a mortal (very intelligent) college student with money.
One idea I had is a cab driver of some sort, possibly with a supernatural power or item of power.
The other idea was an apprentice wizard who plays the harmonica. I know. pretty boring.
I'm reading Side Jobs right now, and am planning on rereading the earlier books for inspiration.

DFRPG / Stumped for a concept
« on: November 05, 2010, 02:09:48 PM »
A friend of mine decided that he would try to run a Dresden Files game at the local store. For the last couple of week I have been trying to come up with a character idea. Last night was supposed to be city and character creation. We all decided on New Orleans post Katrina as the setting. Then we all started to work on character concepts...everyone but me. I sat at the table for almost two hours with an empty notebook staring me in the face while the other guys churned out page after page of stuff for their characters. This has never happened to me before. Up to now I have never had a problem with character ideas.  Right now I am wondering what to do. Does anyone have any good ideas on how I can get on track?

At one of my local game stores there is currently a World of Darkness game that has been going for over a year...with 18 people! The way they work this is that there is one main GM and two co-GMs. From what I have seen, unless there is a conflict, most of the players are happy to break up into smaller groups and roleplay amongst themselves, letting the GMs know if something signifcant happens that might affect any of the other players.

@Desert Coyote
*knuckle bump*

I'm fine...I think. It was a very weird/tragic/surrealistic day yesterday in my little town of Tolono, Pop 2700.
Earlier in the day I talked to Fred Hicks on e-mail about when to expect my books. Blammo! there they were! I don't know how he did it. Some sort of teleportation spell, I'd guess.

DFRPG / Overwhelmed by creativeness
« on: July 16, 2010, 08:58:22 PM »
I've been going through various posts here and all I can say is WOW! I am overwhelmed by all of the creative stuff that is going on here. The campaign setting ideas, the character concepts, etc. etc. It's all very intriguing. Then I did some looking around at the various play by e-mail games that are starting up (and underway)...and it has been very helpful/interesting. I had been having some trouble figuring out just how some parts of the system were supposed to work, and being able to look over shoulders as people actually play has answered some of my questions.

Oh, ok. I noticed that there were a couple of other of these locked threads and was wondering what the deal was.
I looked in the Help menu but couldn't find anything. Thanks for the information!

Heavy sigh...

Went on a trip to the Chicago area today and stopped at a couple of game/hobby stores...both of which had the Dresden Files RPG books. At least I got to thumb through real copies in anticipation of receiving mine! They are really cool looking.

I have noticed that I have complained a lot, but mostly it is just the frustration at not having the books in my hot little hands. And I am also kicking myself in the butt for using USPS vs figuring out a way to use UPS. Like I said before, live & learn. I must agree with what everyone else has said, and thank you guys for being so open with us concerning the process. It does help calm me down.

It has made me go back to my painting table to work on some figures, which is always a very Zen like time, which has made me think of looking for some character type figures to paint.
