I don't have an active DGRPG game at the moment, but I might be interested in playing.  What side of town do you live on?

Or Oberon is Santa Claus, the King of Winter who got press-ganged into Christian mythology.  After all, Santa's workshop is supposed to be filled with elves, right?  ;)

Dresden needed a Knight of the Cross to introduce him to a Priest in the Know to get access to large amounts of holy water.

Point of order, but IIRC, Michael was surprised that Harry already knew Father Forthill when he attempted to introduce them to each other.  I'd have to read Grave Peril again in order to be sure.

McAurther Park.

I'm totally serious. Big open place in the middle of the city, lots of police and homeless presence. Why? The homeless figured out less of them get "disappeared" if they stay in the park overnight. (no hunting for red court and ghouls) And the cops add a "don't show off in front of the mortals" factor.

That's pretty much the same reason that Centennial Olympic Park is ANG in Atlanta.

Great:   Conviction, Baseball(thrown weapons)
Good:      Athletics, Endurance
Fair:    Alertness, Lore
Average: Presence, Resources

Powers:
0 Wizard's Constitution
-2 Channeling (time)
-1 Baseball Pitcher.  Can throw projectiles two zones.

I'd just create a Stunt that adds the Distance Weaponry trapping to the Athletics skill instead of taking the Weapons skill itself.  Unless, of course, you want him to also be a Great swordsman...

I think we're getting somewhere now... I think I'm going to make it a local band, as suggested.  This makes it mire plausible that they'd be doing multiple shows, so a pattern can more easily start to emerge.  I think I'm going to have the whole band have Cassandra's Tears, and they all trigger at random, which is why it's never the same song it works on twice.  I think they won't even know they have it, but all the effects they cause are amassing power for the big nasty of my campaign (whatever I decide that to be... It's early, I can be vague).  Their songs will be almost entirely covers, which also lends to the random effects.  As for the songs themselves and their effects, I'm working on a list.  So far I've got...

Filter- Hey Man Nice Shot - increased suicides, gun murders
Offspring - Come Out and Play - increased youth crime
Nickelback - Never Again - increased domestic violence
Green Day - Having a Blast - suicide bombers
Metallica - One - soldiers returning from Iraq have lost their arms, legs, sight, hearing... This one is REALLY dark...

I need some more.  Anyone got any for me?

You may be able to draw on this old medieval myth about the tritone, too.  Maybe all those monks weren't wrong?  Perhaps when the interval is played by someone with the "right" supernatural heritage, it really IS evil?  Bwahahaha!

Just Google "the devil's interval" or the "devil's chord" and you'll find more info on it.

My group is starting our game next week.  We did chargen last night, and we are all pumped to start.  For our first game, I plan on using a plot nugget I saw in another forum a few weeks back... A Rock Band that has somehow developed Oracular abilities.  1 in every 7 of their songs come true.  The problem is this: I'm not sure of the reason why this has happened, but even more importantly than that, I haven't been able to decide on a band.  I want it to be a real one, whose actual songs I can play during the game as their lyrics start coming true.  I just can't decide whose songs and lyrics to use... Anyone got any suggestions?

Oh, our game is set in the Cleveland area, and the supernatural is just beginning to rise to prominence.  Their are representatives of most of the major groups somewhere in the area, but no one has really risen to any great power yet.

You could save yourself some trouble and have the band be a local one that mostly plays cover songs with a few originals mixed in.  They pick their set list, either consciously or not, based on whatever oracular powers they have.  That way, you aren't stuck with just one band and you can play any song you like if its lyrics are appropriate.  Of course, it's their original songs that are really scary-accurate. <evil grin>

Envy would work too. All of the people who don't make it...

One of the local White Court families in our Atlanta game, House Cadiz, feeds on Envy.  They are huge in the fashion industry and compete with Raith for the club scene.  They really do bask in the glow of others' admiration.  Cadiz' Catch remains True Love, though it would be more accurate to say that their Catch (and the Catch of most White Court Vamps) is "Selfless Devotion", a pure and true emotion whose most potent expression is True Love.

The other White Court family is House Lazio, which feeds on Gluttony.  They have their fingers deep in many high-end fine cuisine restaurants and are in direct control of several "Dinner in the Dark" restaurants where the darkness is not a hinderance to them.  The Lazio can feed freely on guests who would only be aware of having the best meal of their life.  On the criminal side, the Lazio are involved in the designer drug trade, since drug and alcohol addiction is also a form of gluttony.

Schedule permitting, count me in.  If nothing else, it'd be worth it to hang out with fellow DFRPG gamers. :)

Likely character concept is a Changeling, either Winter or Wylde, of a wind/air nature spirit.

Consider that if the power of Holy Touch to satisfy catches is not unique, and does not cost fate points or refresh to replicate, then the power effectively only gives weapon: 1 to fists against things repulsive to the faith of the user, which is weaker than a stunt.

Nah, being the Catch for things like vamps, demons, ghouls and so on is worth a +1.  It cannot be taken away, and that's a feature this game values.

Quote
Also, look at the way the catch is calculated for things weak to holy stuff.  These catches tend to be low values, suggesting that holy stuff is something only a vary rare class of people have access to.  Someone who has a faith, even one he strongly believes in, may not be able to produce holy stuff except under extraordinary circumstances (this being an aspect invocation).

And yes, Harry does use his faith to ward off vampires from time to time.  He always does so with his mother silver pentacle, which is why that is one of his aspects, I believe.  I would see him using it that way as an invocation of that aspect.

This is a serviceable solution, but what I don't like about it is that there's no allowance for a character's Conviction.  Conviction is the skill that measures the strength of one's beliefs and, by the novels, that's supposed to mean something.  Having an Aspect related to your beliefs is always good, but it shouldn't be required to satisfy any Catch.

So, how's this... in order to channel one's faith against a creature through a holy object, one must first place a maneuver upon the object using their Conviction as a supplemental action.  If successful, then the object may satisfy a creature's "holy stuff" Catch.  If not... then it's just another trinket and you better have a good Plan B.  A character with Superb Conviction (like Harry and most True Faith characters), will succeed almost every time.  On the other hand, a character with only Fair Conviction (checks book real quick... like Fix or Susan) would need a little bit of luck to succeed.  If you have merely Mediocre Conviction, then you'll need a really lucky roll to pull it off.  Does that sound reasonable?

Sure, its a passive ability, meaning they don't have to pay fate points (beyond the 1 fate point lost from refresh) to use it.  Thats why I'd say that not having a True Faith template would require you to invoke an aspect to get blessed weapons.  It would be easier to hand wave it for someone with a True Believer template but not Holy Touch, because thats what they've devoted their character to.  Having other characters just be able to do it without cost just makes it a cheap trick, and I'd really resent it if I played a True Believer in a campaign where everyone could do it without paying anything for it.  Maybe you don't have True Believer's in your group, so maybe you can convince your GM to house rule blessed weapons for people who have faith aspects.

Eh, I just see the True Faith powers as a variant form of Sponsored Magic (or, in this case, Sponsored Powers), where the Will of the Almighty is expressed through them.  That's how things like Bless This House, Guide My Hand, and Righteousness work; you're borrowing some of the Almighty's mojo, which is why they cost Refresh (aka the sacrifice of your own free will) to acquire.  A strong, personal faith in something requires no higher power or even regular church attendance (in fact, Harry mentions this several times [most recently in Changes, p202]).  Or are you suggesting that Harry has a True Faith power?

My character already has the Aspect and I have few qualms about invoking it for effect, I just don't think it's necessary.  I mean, you don't need an Aspect/FP to bypass a Cold Iron catch or a Fire catch, right?  Why is Holy Stuff more special than those Catches?

Also, the sword would not be considered "holy stuff" for anyone but that swordsman (or, I suppose, his retired grandfather), due to the nature of the weapon and what it represents to him.  So, if another PC picked it up and used it, it would be just another Weapon:2 sword.  For an item to be inherently Holy, irregardless of the wielder's own faith, it would require some supernatural mojo (a la the Sword of the Cross).

Quote
This... still sounds like a supernatural power.

It comes close, but no more so than Listening, Devout Words, or Finely Attuned Third Eye do.  IMO, at least.

If its an aspect, you can might be able to invoke that aspect to get a temporary Holy effect.  The problem is that you don't want to start mimicking the effects of the True Believer template, or you end up making True Believer powers (in this case, Holy Touch) worthless.

Holy Touch is valuable because it is ever-present and cannot be removed from the character.  Mere "Holy Stuff" can be disarmed, left behind or simply inconvenient (like holy water balloons).  Holy Touch is also, arguably, passive in its effect; if a Red touches someone with Holy Touch like whats-her-name touched Michael in Grave Peril, then they could take 1 physical stress from that contact.

Quote
Attacking the physical stress track with conviction is definitely a power, not a stunt, because its something that can't be done without some mystical mojo of some sort.

Sorry, I meant to say that such a stunt could only be used against a creature whose HC made them vulnerable to holy stuff (i.e., red/black vamps, ghouls, demons, etc).  Didn't mean to imply that it could also attack a mortal or fae or something.
