... a limited suite? I mean within reason but so far ive seen it used with one pc and ive used it myself, both times it proved very powerful, not overly so (dependant on allowances, theme and refresh) but a very useful utility power.

1. so a game usually determines a power level that each character start with, so you may want to make sure, its possible your friends game is using varied power levels. Just wanted to have that said, in case.

2. A magic user is definately possible at "Up to your waist" but you wont even manage to get the full wizard package at that level (you'll be 1 refresh short), you'd need at least chest deep, subermerged would be better so you can choose to grab some refinement or a stunt or two.

3. In my experience magic is like this: Thaumaturgy is very powerful, infinitely useful and you never have time to do it when you need it most. Evocation is powerful, less versatile but its what stops the invisible demon from eating your face when they are standing in front of you.

4. The spirit element utilizes anything that isn't one of the other 4 elements, this can be alot (and indeed magic is what the wielder believes so this can vary fro, wizard to wizard) but under it falls acts of kinetics (i.e. pure force fields, kinetic attacks (such as Forzare) and mind magic for sure.

5. At up to your waist, you don't have alot of options especially if going for the wizard package. With the wizard package i'd suggest a defensive item or two, or get ready with some sweet potions.

5a. if you free up some refresh, you certainly wouldnt have the refresh to get mythic speed (if it were even allowed), and your concept would have to justify where it came from. It seems to me like you want to avoid stress, instead of absorbing it, but reallyy our choices range from supernatural powers/refinement or stunts.

5b. Remember that it is REALLY HARD for your character to die if you don't want them to. That isnt what the game is about. Losing/conceeding a fight generally involves you running away or getting captured.

5c. I rather like the concept, though i only had time to glance over it, though it wou;d provide lots of complications in her existence and she may be destroyed if her origins are ever discovered by the Council.

DFRPG / Shapeshafiting/Skill shuffle and extra consequences
« on: August 24, 2014, 05:55:36 AM »
i was trying to search, but the annoying cap on 1 search per 60 seconds makes it nearly impossible, but i didnt see anything come up on my first two attempts using different criteria.

How do you guys rule the extra consequence granted from the skill shuffle trapping of shapeshifting (if the shapeshifter takes an endurance 5 in beast form and his human form has lower)? For the sake of not saying "they lose the empty one instead" lets assume both mild consequences are used and you shape shift out.

do you let it go? since its the end of a scene and its not that deterimental anyway (assuming they shapeshift out at the end of a fight or what not), does it "upgrade" or does the slot go away but remains as an aspect for the next scene? i think thats the ways i can think of to handle it.

DFRPG / Re: Do you like or dislike the fate system and why?
« on: August 16, 2014, 01:44:45 AM »
I absolutely adore fate, for reference of all th systems of played and its been alot in the 20 year or so ive been gaming, Fate is by far my favorite. It would go:
1. Fate
2. Cortex (Firefly/Spn era; i dislike Cortex plus)
3. White Wolf, probably. Though i LOVE the Mouse Guard rpg as well.

Why? I love rules light systems, i love the collaborative story building elements of rpgs, i love not needed to worry about stats and rules and mechanics. You'd prolly have guessed by the list above that i prefer rules light systems, I despise most d20 systems ive run since picking up fate and cortex. 3.5 was atrocious, 4E gets better, but is still pretty mechanical.

In fate you can simulate anything within reason easily and quickly with almost no need to look anything up, a few simple rules and you can run the whole thing and simulate everything in a pretty believable and manageable fashion.

A well-tested group that is intimately familiar with fate can get away with obscurring the system almost entirely to the background and relay most of the important information in an immersive way.

I'm not so good with the words, and im trying to make this quick but, all in all i love Fate for how rules light it is and how many options it provides to both GM and Players.

Also any maneuver that makes sense could be invoked or tagged to force a course of action such as attacking a specific character.
