I suspect we should both be careful when using wiki as a reference as any true scholarly work would not allow that. LOL. Anyway Without doing a study i'd be unsure of what the true root of the islands name is. As to why Jim used it for the spire i'd have to defer to him. Aurora was roman not greek, and Olympia could be from either root. The point of the reply for me though was that Auroran most likely has nothing to do with spain.

Because of the simple nature of cats Rowl was probably one of the most effective characters in the book. He doesn't need much more in the way of backstory. I really enjoyed the cat perspective chapters. Little things like "perhapse he would have to compose a song for her" made me laugh and I'm not a cat person at all.

Steam Punk by it's nature identifies with the Victorian Era of England which identified heavily with ancient Greece.

I didn't read all of the replies... However the spire names seem to derive from a Greek mythos base
Olympia, Albion, and Aurora... 2 are Greek Gods, 1 is the home of the gods. The other uses of the words are probably derived from those roots.

**hmm spire Jereezi?** As far as i know only these 4 spires are named if you spotted one update me please. I think the Spire Jereeze however, might not ever come up again.

I finished this book a few weeks back and have had some time to digest it. I have read pro and con reviews of the book on good reads and other sites. The main issue most negative reviews seem to have is a flat nature to the characters. I personally marked this book 4 stars on Amazon and stated that I was thankful that J.Butcher skipped doing a full book of character backstories and development.
So, who do you think the main protagonist is? The "enemy" is purposefully unclear, but I find that I am unsure who the main character is. I can't really think of a successful book or series of books that does not boil down to 1 good (entity) vs 1 bad (entity).
*example* The Bible : God/Devil(human nature). The lord of the rings Bilbo, Soramon(sp). The Wheel of time: Richard vs many diff evil main chars.

 Perhaps your already too far into your story development with your main char. With the exception of books where the char. is already defined by previous media most of the best series i have read start with chars. that have no power or no knowledge of thier powers and discover a little as they go and grow and change with the storylines. It sounds like you have a fairly well defined main char, and it sounds like you could write several books just getting the main char to where you have it at. The bad guys could pretty easily flow from the quest to gain the power he has or the need to gain it to overcome them.
