If he does want to come to the uk, I currently work for Borders/Books Etc and can hook Jim up with some in-store signings, my colleague, Cherry would be over the moon as she enjoys the books too. Dresden is becoming quite popular over here. Although I am in London, Edinburgh is my home town and it is beautiful. Jim will have to try the haggis and whisky.Unfortunately, with Jim's propensity to motion sickness, I'm sure he's not too keen on the thought of a long plane ride, unless he could get a day or two to recuperate upon landing. As for haggis and whiskey, well, Jim doesn't drink, and even though he's one of the more polite people on God's green earth, I can't imagine him even coming close to the haggis, much less actually eating any.
I don't know if Jim Butcher is aware that google is giving his book online away libre. ! that's just wrong. i thought it was only a preview but it's the whole novel. If so someone it's illegal someone should contact him and let him be aware of that. He's entitled and it's HIS BOOK.copyright infringement!!!.
I would love it if Jim came to the UK. Edinburgh is a great place to visit. Hint! Hell, we've even got a Borders here!Aye, but unless there's a Burger King on the Royal Mile, don't expect him.
The reason Jim is an ideal writer for Spider-Man is that Harry and Spidey are so similar. In fact, Harry is snarky in the exact same way Spider-Man is in the comics. In one of the Dresden books, Harry even makes mention that he is a follower of "the Tao of Peter Parker."
Okay, I'm kind of confused about something. In The Darkest Hour, Spidey says that he killed Morlun by injecting himself with radioactive material and letting Morlun drain him and then Morlun's guy shot him in the chest when he was weakened, but I read on Wikipedia that it happened differently in the comic. I read that Morlun ripped Spidey's eye out and when he was in the hospital, Morlun went after Mary Jane and Peter got pissed so he mutated into a giant spider and killed Morlun and then died himself only to be born from a cocoon.
So then which is true? I thought they were both Amazing Spider-man.
I couldn't resist - I started reading FM in the car before I drove away, and I got sucked in, reading the first 12 pages in one whoosh before I realized I'd done it. I'm beginning to understand the wicked fast reading times I've seen quoted on this board.
I am guilty of discovering the books via the TV show. Does them mean I'm no longer cool? I am trying to compensate by buying the books as fast as humanely possible.
I prefer Eureka Springs, AR personally - somewhat less commercial.Currently pondering:Branson MO. Because it has to be seen to be believed.
Where should we go for vacation?
Although we haven't seen examples of healing magic in the Dresdenverse, it dosn't mean it dosn't exist...
Then you'll have to go outside of the canon to provide such a character. That's all. Nothing stopping you, when it comes down to it.
But even *Hank McCoy*, a wizard of the Senior Council, was only able to give Harry something to ease the pain, and *maybe* lightly nudge the healing process, when Harry got his hand fried. It's not within the scope of human magic, at a minimum -- possibly because resculpting human flesh requires an atomic-level understanding of biology, or just that it's hard not to accidentally strip the muscle off of the bone. Whatever the case, there's just no foundation for it.
Sorry L.N. I know I originally asked because it was overly large in general, and then Iago mentioned the height and also mentioned it should be normal sized.I for one was kinda hoping that oversize icons would auto-squish to the proper size. I've seen that on other boards. Sigh, took me several tries to get this one mushed down to 100x100, but it does look better than the previous one.
I don't want to get anyone mad at me. But maybe we should ask him to streamline the size requirements. I know other boards put it in the board admin's controls to make it so someone can't load an icon over a certain size.
My respect for Jim went up to know that he too played the much un-beloved Birthright game.Jim actually GM'd two different birthright campaigns, both of which rocked the house. The first one, which Fred was referring to in the podcast, was based in, er, whatever the name of that land was that Birthright used. The second was an Oriental setting conversion, which was great fun. Those were probably my two favorite RPG campaigns ever.
We know that Isana said she has one fury.. Rill.. but when she was crafting Tavi's potential into suppression, she said that Furies... plural ... around the steadholt would do it for her with but little thought on her part... why were there extra furies helping... we know that the furies in the steadholts are more violent and independant... stronger.... so why would these other furies be willing to help... unless perhaps they were drawn to Tavi's potential... and since they knew it was at this time in his best interest.... they helped...because they recognized his bloodline...From the things Jim has said, Furies don't really have that much intelligence and independence of thought. While someone like Isana might only have one main fury, any furycrafter can do things with the many myriad smaller furies imbuing the world around them. The furylights are a good example. All you have to be able to do is be heard by furies, and you can control the furylamps. Similarly, Isana could use the lesser furies around the steadholt to help suppress Tavi. Wouldn't even have to be only water furies.
