Another way to go would be to run the initial client interview as a Mental Conflict; do enough Mental Stress to force the client to take a Severe or Extreme Consequence: Geasa. Then it could be Compelled for as long as it remained in place.

The real interesting thing would be to model the Conflict in such a way that the client would cause Stress on himself whenever he lied.

There's a way to deal with this sort of things story-wise too.

Suppose a Big Bad Guy shows up early-on instead of at the climax. First off, the Wizard probably won't have a lot of FP's to throw around for Invoking Aspects. That alone could stretch the conflict a little longer. Maybe hit 'em with a Compel to make it even more interesting. And if the Wizard's willing to take a Consequence to boost an Evocation, well, it'll probably be there for the rest of the story, ready to be Compelled.

My players have been a tad gun-shy when it comes to Evocations, so I haven't seen this issue crop up in my game.

In our game, we're going with the Naga as the Jade Court. Since they're from Southeast Asia, and that is where the Jade Court is supposed to be centered, it seemed like a good fit. Naga myths are very diverse, so there's plenty of room to play around. The version we're going with is the human torso on a snake's body, but they might have shape-changing abilities as well.

I like the Nukekubi, Penanggalan, and such too. Another common theme I found for them is that their heads separate from their bodies and fly around when they're hunting.

I'd say that's exactly right. From the text, your successful defense becomes a successful attack (and your opponent's failed attack becomes a failed defense) when you Riposte. And it counts as your next action.

There's actually no reason why a PC can't compel aspects on NPC's. The key points to remember are;

1) They have to be aware of the aspect's existence (either as the result of an assessment or declaration, placing it via a maneuver or consequence, or an existing scene aspect)
2) They must pay a FP (unless they have a free tag, maybe [see below])
3) If the target accepts the compel, they receive the FP from the PC (in the case of the free tag above, either it can't be used to compel, or the target gets a FP from the pot instead of from the PC. Its not clear to me which way the rules lean on this point)

One way you could ratchet up the Fantasy element, but still keep the setting firmly within the Dresdenverse, would be to set the main action of the story in the Nevernever. The Faerie Realms are right next door to our own world, and beyond them the Nevernever is filled with an endless variety of places; Valhalla, the Dreamtime, Olympia...

Additional stress boxes would be the easiest way to get a more adventurous/cinematic feel to conflicts. Also, I'm toying with the idea of allowing characters with Evocation to spend a Fate point instead of taking a point of stress when they cast an evocation spell. It would allow them to pump out a few more spells when they need to, but they'd also need to take those Compels in order to build up their FP supply.

Given their mythical penchant for wearing iron-shod boots and fighting with iron weapons, that Catch might be rather debatable, but that's just my take.

Well, my explanation for my game is that Faeries forge items which appear to be made of iron to the untrained eyes of mortals. In reality, they use faerie metals and alloys. I decided to follow the canon, which seems to be that all beings of Faerie are subject to the Cold Iron Catch, but that's easily changed for individual use.

Any thoughts on the Faerie Item Power?

But you can't taser someone just so you can have someone else blow a guy's head off. That breaks the 1st law of Magic right?

I'd say it comes down to intent. Did you know that your buddy was going to kill the guy you immobilized with magic? If so, that there's a First Law infraction. Did you think he might? That's a grey area, but we know how some Wardens might view it.

Has anybody mentioned The Ninth Gate? Antique books with a ritual encoded in a series of wood-block prints. Great game fodder.

If this Medieval Re-enactment Tournament is going to exist alongside a conventional City in the Dresdenverse, why not have some member or members of the re-enactment by NPCs in the mundane world. Kinda the way The Alphas are also Gamers. That could make for an easy introduction to the tournament location. Heck, a PC could even be a part of the group if they wanted to.

I've participated in the SCA for years now, and I've seen that the social cross-section of SCA membership is incredibly broad. From doctors to dock-workers. Science geeks, history geeks and gamer geeks. Heck, even Trek geeks. Literally any Face in a Dresdenized City, could also be a Medieval Re-enactor.

And a quick comment on SCA-style combat. While it's true that the weapons used are rattan rather than blunted steel, the armor worn is quite real, and for good reason. Even tape-wrapped rattan can break bones (particularly at the joints), and even with armor I've seen some wicked welts and bruises. Also, the fighting style is more like a martial art; not at all like stage combat. I've heard a story that an experienced SCA fighter was once hired as a consultant by a police force to train the officers in riot control techniques. Think Sword & Heater Shield = Nightstick & Riot Shield.

Problem is that the Dwarves, or Svartalf as they are called originally, are the ones who made basically all the artifacts in Norse myth. Odin's spear for example was made by Dwalin, King of the Svartalfs. I don't recall who specifically made all the others, but they include Thors Hammer, Sif's Hair, Freyr's Ship...

Legendary Blacksmiths who are vulnerable to iron... doesn't really track for me.

I'm just pointing out the direction that JB seems to be going with the Books. This is for people who are concerned about the canon. For any individual game interpretation, go with what you like, of course. My own work-around for this is to say that the Legendary Dwarven Smiths forged those Norse Artifacts from mystical metals found only in the Nevernever, some of which look like iron or steel to the unschooled mortal eye. Incidentally, this works for bits of folklore from other cultures as well.
