Bob was not in the prequel story on line.  maybe rephrase the question to 14.   What characters have appeared in every published Dresden Files story so far?

just a thought

Possible "It's My Birthday, Too" spoilers:

I'm going to work on a list, ranging from "Just checking to see if you've read the books" to "Even Jim would have to look these damn things up!!"  What sort of difficulty are you looking for?

Mr. Robert sir, you mentioned on the little post about the DVD info that you had recorded commentaries for two of the episodes...do you have any say in bonus features and whatnot?  Or are you even in the loop for that?  If so on either count, do you happen to know if EVERY episode is going to get a commentary track of some sort (be it you on this episode, Paul on this one, etc.) or is it going to be like the Season 1 Buffy DVDs (which put me off buying TV DVDs for a year or so) where only 4 of the 12 episodes have commentaries?

I really hate to say it, but I buy DVD boxed sets for the extras, not for the show/movie itself.  I have a DVR with a pretty good capacity for re-watching the shows themselves if I really wanted to, so the first thing I do when I pick up a DVD is read what extras are on it.  If there's no commentary tracks, I put it back.  That's why I didn't get The Maltese Falcon until this past year because the previous edition had no commentary tracks.  Extras sell DVDs in my opinion.

That being said, I WILL be buying The Dresden Files even if I only get the two commentaries.  I love the show and I can't bear knowing there's something Dresden in existence that I don't own :p

I love contemporary fantasy or urban fantasy.  A modern setting with big huge fireballs and epic battles destroying entire buildings or even city blocks.  Gee, wonder why I like the Dresden Files so much...

Jim has a thing about leaving chapters in cliffhangers which is great for making you want to keep reading, but is horrible for people like me who read while waiting on the bus or on lunch at work or whatever.  It's REALLY hard to put it down because there's very few good stopping places.  Take Summer Knight for example.  You think you've got a stopping point after the attack at the park, but then it goes right into the meeting with Mab.  That's too interesting to put down, so you keep reading.  Maybe after he leaves the office...but wait, next up is the Council meeting, really want to know what that's about.  And after that, a great stopping place, right?  Nope, then Elaine pops up!  Well shit, have to see where this is going.  Maybe after this...no, no, Morgan shows up...

So I miss two buses until I get to a real stopping point and remember to look up and see my bus driving up.  The moral of the story?  It's good to make your reading want to keep turning the pages, but you also need to make sure they can stop for a while if they need to.

Or maybe it's just taken out of context.  Someone gets Harry's staff from him, Bob provokes them, they swing at him and he tries to block it.  In the still, it looks like he catches it.  The episode might have it fly right through him.

...except Hannibal IS likable.  That's what makes him so dangerous.  He's a suave, sophisticated, eloquently spoken, handsome man who looks at you like you're a goose that's about to become pate.  That's how he gets away with so much that he gets away with.  People start to trust him instinctively (and through his own manipulation).

Bianca's Ball is the only point in the novels where a lot of different types of characters got together and fighting wasn't the main objective.  Even if you don't do that exactly, you'll have to do something similar to that.  Possibly a Council meeting with emissaries from the other supernatural powers.  It's cliched in LARP circles, but it's the only way I can think of to get a bunch of Dresden Files characters together without everyone wanting to behead/immolate/crush/eat/etc. at least one other person.

Still never gotten an answer...humor?  Smart-ass?  Snark?  Will we be getting more than the itty bitty teeny weeny microscopic taste we got last week?  Pretty please?

Most mythologies have demons and devils that are human/animal hybrids.  Egyptians, Sumerians, Greeks, Romans, Norse...men...anyway...Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Shinto, Hindu, Aztec, Mayan...hell, every culture and religion on earth uses anthropomorphized animals as a demon of some sort.

And big swords just look COOL.  Why do you think it is that no one uses Greek or Roman swords in movies?  Why is it that rapiers used in movies these days look very little like traditional rapiers but very thin broadswords?  Is it realistic?  Well, the Scottish used Claymores which I can vouch are as tall as most people (I'm 6'3" and my roommate's claymore comes to my eyes).  The Japanese developed a sword about 8-10 feet long.  The problem is that historically, these big swords were meant for attacking mounted opponents, chopping the horses' legs out from under them.  They're not meant for person-to-person combat...

But come on, they look awsome!!

Depends on your audience.  You want someone who your audience will identify with.  Most people who read a lot -- I hate to say it and don't take offense, I'm one too -- are not the most social people in the world.  We sympathize with the nice guy who gets screwed over.  We want someone who everyone hates even though he's doing the right thing.  It's the reason why characters like Harry Potter, Spider-man, Harry Dresden, and others like them are popular.  They all do the right thing regardless of the consequences to their social lives.  They're persecuted for doing the right thing.  They're more or less loners who have a few close friends.

I can't identify very well personally with someone who's super-popular that everyone loves and adores.  It just rubs me the wrong way, reminds me of the people I typically hate on sight.  The only reason I can stand Bruce Wayne is because I know that it's just a disguise Batman uses to function in normal society.

Okay, I'm rambling...but you get the idea I hope!  The character doesn't have to be likable to the rest of the world, as long as WE love him.

It's a Sci-Fi Channel thing, not just a Dresden Files thing.  Depending on your stereo set-up, your results may vary.  I find it easier to understand the dialog using the built-in speakers on my crappy 16 year old TV than on my parents' 64" HDTV and 5.1 Dolby DTS digital super-badass surround house vibration machine.
