What do you need to know?

A few things:

Foley Artist: Not the guy who draws Eddie Murphy. It's the Sound FX guy.

Grip: Not slang for anything dirty.

Best Boy: Ditto.

*giggle*  Yeah, I know they're not as dirty as they sound!

I just want to know the general sequence of events for a major movie.  It's all good though, I'm not going to have time to write that story for quite a while.

:)

NaNo does exactly what it was meant to do--get you to write something, anything, even if it sucks.  My problem has always been a lack of focus.  I can START several stories, but I'm terrible at outlining, and even if I do I tend to veer off course anyway.  I've only done it once, and didn't make the word count because I veered off course and didn't know where to go.

I ended up not doing it this year because I am working a weird schedule, plus I got about 500 words in and realized I needed at least a semblance of a plan before I could get anywhere, and I didn't have one.  The two clearest stories in my head are the one about making a movie and one about privateers that I've now started to write twice but haven't finished yet because I'm just not sure where it's going.  It's times like these that I wish I was better at outlining and planning the stories in my head, but invariably I just get scenes to the stories, not outlines.

OK I'm not going to make NaNoWriMo, but I'm at least going to start a story.

However, I am putting off writing my original story idea for NaNo because it takes place on a movie set, and I have NO IDEA how movies are made!  (So much for write what you know, eh?)

Is there anyone out there familiar with movie making or who knows a good reference that I can read to learn about movies?  Caveat to that statement--I am living in Germany at the moment and cannot get to a big-chain bookstore, but I can order stuff online.

Thanks in advance!

Likewise, it is a really bad idea, when you are used to absently nibbling chocolate-covered raisins out of a bowl and actually putting away a fair few of them over a few hours' working, to have a bowl of chocolate-covered espresso beans in a place where you might do that with them.

...ouch.

My only comparable story is the time I absently ate an entire bag of Skittles while watching Seven (Se7en?  The one with Brad Pitt--yeah IMDB says Se7en...) and even though it was a movie theatre size, I usually don't finish a bag in one sitting.  I'm not much of a sugar person.  I was soooo hyper then nauseated, it wasn't fun.  And no, it wasn't from the grotesqueries in the movie, as I am not bothered by that sort of stuff.

That's a nice haul on word count!  I can hit that when I'm cruising, but it wakes up my hand/wrist injuries.  Lately, I've had the luxury of keeping a 2-3k pace per day, which I like quite a bit.

My record is 13k after a night of prescription stimulants, Fruity Pebbles, and no sleep.  I was crazy by the time it was over.  I will never do that again.  Never. Again.  Don't do it, guys.  No, I'm serious. DON'T.

Fruity Pebbles and prescription stimulants?  Does it warn you in the Drug Interactions to avoid Fruity Pebbles??

And I will take your advice to heart!  (Since I don't eat Fruity Pebbles this really isn't as difficult a thing to avoid as one would think.)

I love 'em!  I think my favorite is the Za Lord's Guard.  Unfortunately, I'm not up for any new purchases at this time, darn it.

Just one quick, admittedly nitpicky, comment.  There should be a comma in the phrase, "Blood does not stain the Warden's cloak")

Just one nitpicky comment in return--it's an apostrophe, not a comma. :D

, <--comma.  ' <--apostrophe.

That ends our punctuation lesson for today. ;D

Author Craft / Jim's LJ updated again!

Hey all!  Hadn't seen an announcement for this, so I figured I'd share.

Jim updated his LiveJournal again, this time he covers "Putting it all Together" a starting point for organizing your story.

I can't ever remember how to do cool linkies, so you get a boring one--

Hey Sayessa, I just realized that a little part of me is in your first crowd picture!  On the far left there are two blonds and then a tiny bit of a black haired person with a white headband (has a little bow on it).  That's the top of my head.  Yep, I'm Murphy short.   :)  Too bad I didn't know you then.  We were sitting pretty close together.

I knew I should have been more sociable, but alas I suffer from shyness.  There were just too many people there to try and get an informal chat going.  Chatting with the artist lady was about as far as I got!

Maybe I'll make it to the States next signing...  I can hope anyway.

I think I was in the front row last time too.  I was originally a little bit on the left (while facing JB) but then when they brought in more chairs, I ended up almost dead center.  I lucked out!   ;D  Last year was kind of a blur to me but I know I was wearing shorts and a backpack style purse with a pink peeps bunny on it.

I didn't see your pictures from last year in this thread.  Am I missing something?

BTW, you mentioned "the move".  Are you living elsewhere right now?

D'oh!  I meant the Jim on Tour Pics thread!  *is a dork*

I was originally in the second row on the left side but moved up to the first row, last two seats on the left when everyone moved over to the new chairs.  Man, we probably were REALLY close and I never noticed...  I missed everyone from the forum, since we didn't think of a clever way to ID each other.

I did indeed move--I'm in Germany for the next three years.  I'm in the Air Force.

I saw her painting last time too -I sat near her.  Wasn't it great?! But I didn't have a camera at that time...  Sheesh!  Last time = brain + no camera.  This time = camera + no brain.  Maybe next time I'll get it right!   :-[

Jeez, maybe I even sat near you too!   ;)  I remember talking to a nice couple who told me about Kim Harrison's Dead Witch Walking series.  If you guys are out there, thanks!  I'm enjoying the series!   :)

I was in the front row last time, second one in.  The pics are back somewhere in this thread.   :)

Did you get him to sign Bob?  (BTW, I saw you there -I was sitting in the row in front of you.)

I was so excited to get the book and a picture with Jim that I forgot to ask the lady who does the paintings if I could get a picture of her painting of Thomas.  Does anyone know who she is?

Erm... Met her last time Jim was in Seattle.  I want to say Ellen...somethingorother.  Crap, I even talked to her last time!  She gives Jim a painting every time she goes to a signing.  Last year it was TV!Harry and Bob's skull, which she let me take a picture of, but it is too blurry to see her signature.

I wrote it down somewhere but with the move it could be anywhere!  Sorry.

So, now that Priscellie has moved my question to this area (and the topic should be named "Seattle", and not "Tacoma", as Tacoma is 30+ miles south of the actual signing)--who is going to show up at the Seattle presentation?

They got it right last time, and hey, close is good enough!   ;D  At least they didn't put Spokane or something.   ;)

Obviously I'm not going, but there are a lot of people in that area that went last time.
